Start’em Sit’em Week 12

Start’em Sit’em Week 12

What can I say! Another week goes by, and yet another horrific week of fantasy player injuries. This weeks rash of injuries is game changing, it may drastically alter how well your team does for the rest of the season. What do you do? How do you adjust your team? Is there anyone out there to pick up? First, don’t panic, don’t make a hasty decision to compensate for the injuries. Second,  I recommend checking out our week 12 waiver wire pickups, Ryan has got a great list of players to help out those of you in need another with a great fantasy trade advice article by Mike Rodriguez. Third, and possibly most important, as someone on this site once said, “Go with your Gut”.  That is exactly what I’m going to do with this weeks Start’em Sit’em for week 12.

“The Don’t Over Think’em Starters”

QB – Cam Newton

If there ever was a time for Cam to break out of his Sophomore slump, this would be the week.  The Eagles have completely quit on Andy Reid, then you add in all the injuries they have had, and that leads to one nice game for Cam and Co.  In what should be one of his better games of the year, Cam throws for over 275 yards, rushes for at least 40, and has 2 TDs.

RB – CJ Spiller

Even if Fred Jackson does return this week, Spiller will still get enough touches to have a significant impact on this weeks game. In games where they have split carries Spiller has still been productive, the only problem is he hasn’t found the endzone very often. With Gailey saying Spiller will get a majority of the carries this week, I see him hitting pay dirt against the Colts. Spiller rushes for 80 to 90 yards and has 1 TD.

WR – Hakeem Nicks

If week 10′s game was any indication of how Nicks is feeling, then I say welcome back. He was targeted 14 times and had 9 receptions for 75 yards, easily his best day since returning from injury. The Giants will need Nicks to step up big if they want to keep up with the Packers this Sunday. In what should be a high scoring game, Nicks has 7 to 8 receptions for 90 to 100 yards and 1 TD.

“The Great Match-Up Favorites”

QB – Chad Henne

With such an impressive performance last week, the Jacksonville Jaguars all of a sudden look like a team with a high number of underrated offensive threats. Henne put on an amazing display against the Houston Texans and now looks to prove his worth against another divisional opponent, the Tennessee Titans.

It’s unlikely you’ll need to start Henne now that all the bye weeks are behind us, although fantasy leagues with 14+ owners, or leagues with a variety of flex options may want to gamble on this match-up. Chad Henne and his Jags face off against one of the worst passing defenses in the league. The Titans have allowed 20 passing touchdowns in just 10 games.

RB - Vick Ballard

When Vick Ballard got his first start against the Jets ( 8 carries for 25 yards) sources like ESPN hyped the Colts RB up beyond belief, burning a lot of fantasy owners. Yet, as the weeks have passed, Ballard has become a productive part of the offense. This week the Colts are up against a terrible rushing defense, one that is ranked 31st in rushing yards allowed per game and dead last in rushing touchdowns allowed (16).

Andrew Luck should lean heavily on his RB’s this week and I expect great numbers from this budding star. 85+ yards and a Touchdown

WR – Michael Crabtree

After being a bust a majority of his NFL career, Crabtree is developing into the receiver the 49ers  had hoped he would be when they drafted him. I would also add that the development of Alex Smith and the emergence of Colin Kaepernick has played a role in his improvement as well. This Sunday in a showdown with the Saints, Crabtree has a solid day. He gets 6 to 7 receptions for 90 to 100 yards, and 1 TD.

“The Tempting Sleepers”

QB – Colin Kaepernick

This pick is for those of you that are hung out to dry with all of the injuries to starting QBs. I was truly stunned when Kaepernick  dismantled a very good Bears D, and this week against a bad Saints D he should have a second solid performance.  In my hook up special of the week with Crabtree, Kaepernick marches all over the Saints, he throws for 280 yards and has 2 TDs.

RB – Marcel Reece

Here is another member of the all injury fill in team. Reece has filled in rather well for the often injured, under producing McFadden.  Although the Raiders have been a pass happy team, Reece’s   surprising production may be a welcome addition to the unstable Raider backfield. This Sunday against an average Bengals D, Reece has another good day. He rushes for 90 to 100 yards, and scores 1 TD.

WR – Danario Alexander

If you are looking for a guy that seems to be stepping up his game, then Alexander is your guy.  He is quickly becoming Rivers new “Go To Guy”, and with their season on the line the Chargers have no choice but to step up and play good ball. With my “Sleeper Special of the Week”, Alexander has quite a day, he has 8 to 9 receptions for close to 100 yards, and at least 1 TD.

“Play At Your Own Peril”

QB – Josh Freeman

With 16 touchdowns in 6 weeks, many fantasy owners have dubbed this mid-season gem their out-of-nowhere new fantasy starter. Yet, the schedule of below average passing defenses have been extra kind to the Buccaneer quarterback.

This week Freeman and the Bucs are heading to Atlanta to face-off against one of the more sneaky passing defenses. The Falcons have a very underrated secondary and so far this season have only allowed 11 passing touchdowns in 10 games. The Falcons bend but don’t break defense is also near the top of the league in interceptions (11). If Freeman isn’t sharp he could struggle in this one. I expect a heavy dose of Doug Martin and a risky fantasy start for Freeman owners.

RB – Saints RB’s

The Running back merry-go round stops in week 12. I don’t want anything to do with New Orleans Saints RB’s against the 49er’s defense this Sunday. Gambling with who will get more carries is already a pain in the butt, but when those few touches have to try to run through one of leagues toughest rush defenses, I’m looking at better options.

WR – Percy Harvin

A word to the wise for those of you that may play Percy Harvin this Sunday against the Bears:  first of all, he is coming off an injury, and even though they say he might play, I doubt he will be 100%. Also add in the fact that he has to face the Bears, a team that was just torched on Monday night. Very rarely do the Bears have 2  bad games on D in back to back weeks.

Last Week

Start’em “The Hits”

  • Carson Palmer – He continues to light it up and prove he still can play in this league.
  • Andrew Luck – Although he was truly out done by Brady, he did have a solid day, throwing for over 3oo yards and 2 TDs.

Sit’em “The Hits”

  • Mike Wallace – It wasn’t Wallace’s fault that Leftwich was just plain brutal on Sunday night.

Start’em “Just Short”

  • Steven Jackson – He had a good game yardage wise but couldn’t find the end zone.
  • Reggie Wayne – Wayne had a solid day with 7 catches for 72 yards but also couldn’t hit pay dirt.

Sit’em  ”Just Short Enough”

  • Trent Richardson – Had a good amount of yards rushing, but couldn’t score a TD, but not a complete bust!!

Start’em “Bust”

  • Matt Forte – The yardage was OK, but no TDs made Forte a bust.
  • Steve Smith – Again another OK performance catches and yardage wise, but no TDs.
  • Nick Foles – What was I thinking, he plays for Philly!!
  • Chris Ivory – Busted by RB roulette again, Ingram has a better night.
  • DHB – Same as Smith, has decent catches and yards, but zero TDs.

Sit’em “Bust”

  • Phillip Rivers – A lot of his day was in garbage time, but he still did better than I thought he would.
