Start’em Sit’em Week 9

Start’em Sit’em Week 9

With week 9 upon us, other than the bye’s, there’s the looming trade deadline for most of your leagues.  This is one of your last chances to get the roster you need to help finish the season strong. With so many injuries, relying on the waiver wire has become just to risky, there’s just not a whole lot left out there. Then if by chance you have any depth at any position, do you go after a trade, or hang on to what you have in case someone gets injured? I tend to be a trade to get better kind of guy, solidify every position you can to make your team as strong as possible. What ever you decide to do, here are the players that should be a good start, and a few that should sit for week 9.

“The Don’t Over Think’em Starters”

QB – Matthew Stafford

If you’re like me, you have found Stafford to be fairly disappointing so far this year. Then week 8 comes along and he’s back, or is he? I feel given the match up he has against the Jags, Stafford should add a second week to his resurgence. Sunday, Stafford throws for 280 to 290 yards, and at least 2 TDs.

RB – Trent Richardson

Now I know he is dealing with a rib/chest injury, but it didn’t seem to slow him down last week. This week, playing a Ravens D that is third worst against the run, and is tied for second worst for rushing TDs allowed, Richardson should do well. This is not the Ravens D of old, Richardson goes for 90 to 100 yards rushing, and at least 1 TD.

WR – Larry Fitzgerald

A new week brings a different team, and the Pack ain’t the 49ers on D. With teams focusing on Fitzgerald more, and the Cardinals struggling at QB, it has been a tough go for him. The Cardinals will need to use Fitz more if they want any shot at keeping up with the Packers on Sunday.

In what needs to be his best game of the year Fitzgerald comes up big, 7 to 8 receptions, for 100 yards receiving, and at least 1 TD.

“The Great Match-Up Favorites”

QB – Michael Vick

Personal history aside, is there a more polarizing player in the NFL today than Michael Vick? He’s all over the place, some weeks he’s good, others he’s not. If there was ever another week for Vick to get it together, its this week. I won’t rehash all the Saints stats on D, we all know they’re BRUTAL. Thus the reason why Vick gets another shot at being a Start’em pick. In a must win game, Vick has a big time performance, throwing for 280 to 290 yards, 2 TDs passing, and 1 rushing TD for good measure.

RB – Reggie Bush

Hopefully the Dolphins staff has figured out that to be successful on offense Reggie Bush needs the ball. Also with Tannehill being hurt, I hope that would also be enough reason to use Bush more. If that wasn’t enough, the Colts are horrible against the run. In one of his best days of the year, Bush rushes for 100 yards and at least 1 TD.

WR – Andre Johnson

Here’s another guy who up until this year was a must start. His stats have definitely not been anywhere near what they have been in the past, but this week against the Bills he should have a very good day. With what should be his best game of the year, Johnson gets 6 to 7 receptions, 90 to 100 yards receiving, and 1 TD.

“The Tempting Sleepers”

QB – Josh Freeman

Here may be the guy who will finish second to Peyton Manning for comeback player of the year. Freeman has been absolutely on fire, throwing for 3 TDs a game over his last three. The Raiders aren’t exactly the best team against the pass, so I feel Freeman will have another great game. Throwing against  the “Silver and Black”, Freeman throws for 275 yards, and only 2 TDs, Slacker!

RB – Fred Jackson

Some of you are thinking, “Isn’t this the Tempting Sleepers” section? Well yes it is, and I will tell you why Jackson is on here. If the Bills have any shot of winning Sunday, Jackson will have to have a big game. What I see for Jackson, is quite a few dump off passes that will get him the fantasy points needed for a big day. In a rushing/receiving game, Jackson has at least 100 yards and 1 to 2 TDS.

WR –  Cecil Shorts

The “short” of it is without MJD the Jags really don’t have much else. Jennings has yet to really step up to give them any threat at RB, so because of that Shorts is seeing a decent amount of action. The Lions are average against the pass, and what else can the Jags do, Shorts has a roaring good day. Cecil has 6 to 7 receptions, 80 to 90 yards receiving, and 1 TD.

“Play At Your Own Peril”

QB – Andy Dalto

The last time I choose Dalton here, he torched me. Well this Sunday, playing a very good Broncos D, I don’t feel it will be the same outcome. The Broncos have only allowed more than 225 yards passing once all season. If that stat doesn’t make you think, I’m not sure what will.

Sit Him.

RB – CJ2K

As solid as he has been over the past few weeks, Johnson runs into one of if not the best D’s in the league. The Bears only allow an average of only 78 yards a game, and have only given up 1 rushing TD all season. My thoughts, use someone else!!

WR – Roddy White/Julio Jones

This pick is not a recommendation to bench, but more of a word to the wise. They are both great WRs, the problem is, one week one of them is hot, and another week the other one is. Now add in the fact that the Cowboys have one of the best secondaries in the league, and you might be in trouble. Just temper your expectations for these two this week.

Last Weeks Recap

Start’em “The Hits”

  • “Big Ben” – Not as many yards throwing as I thought, but 3 TD’s makes up for that.
  • Willis McGahee – The writing is on the wall, he may be a must start here on out. 122 yards rushing and 1 TD, not bad.
  • Tony Romo – 4 INT’s aside, he still lit the Giants up, and came within a finger of pulling off the huge comeback. 437 yards passing, 1 rushing TD, and 1 throwing is pretty darn good.

Sit’em “The Hits”

  • Cam Newton – Yes he got some yards, no TD’s and 2 INT’s, 1 that went for a pick 6!
  • Mikel Leshoure – Detriot goes pass happy, and doesn’t run the ball. Leshoure only gets 46 yards rushing.
  • Larry Fitzgerald – He was held in check all night by the 49ers, Fitz only manages 52 yards receiving.

Start’em “Just Short”

  • Reggie Wayne – He had the receptions and yards, just no TD’s.
  • Randall Cobb – Just the flip of Wayne, almost enough catches, but not enough yards, and 1 TD.

Start’em “Bust”

  • Phillip Rivers – He is quickly becoming the most disappointing QB this year. Yes, more than Vick, the expectations for Rivers were higher.
  • Frank Gore – Just when you think Gore is going to give you some consistency he lays an egg.
  • Brian Hartline – No heart jokes this time, just another bad outing for him. 4 catches for 41 yards doesn’t cut it.
  • Alex Green – That’s three games in a row with 20 plus carries, and not a lot to show for it. Makes you wonder if Green has what it take to be a productive RB in this league.
