Waiver Wire Pickups Week 11

The final week of NFL bye weeks has arrived. This week you will be replacing players, from the Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, Seattle Seahawks, and the Tennessee Titans. With the massive amount of injuries sustained in week 10, especially at the quarterback position, week 11 will be a very interesting  for fantasy owners. So let’s get started:

Quarterback

Carson Palmer- 58% owned – Once again let me start this article with the best widely available quarterback in fantasy football, Carson Palmer. Palmer is put performing: Josh Freeman, Cam Newton, Ben Rothlisberger, Michael Vick, Tony Romo, Phillip Rivers, Alex Smith, Jay Cutler, need I say more. Palmer is the 9th best quarterback in fantasy football this year and is set up with the best fantasy scenario you could ask for week 11.The Raiders are about to face the New Orleans Saints, so Palmer may be able to achieve a top 5 fantasy quarterback this week.

Ryan Fitzpatrick- 48% owned – Fitzpatrick has been less consistent than Palmer but still a great bye week play and could even be consider as a low end starter in bigger leagues. Now if there are guys like Andy Dalton, or Tony Romo available obviously they beat Fitzpatrick but if you are scrapping the bottom of the barrel then Fitzpatrick could be justified this week. His match up against the Dolphins on Thursday night should be a good one as the Dolphins will look to may Fitzpatrick beat them with his arm, which he is very capable of doing.

Nick Foles- 4% owned – Foles will finally get his chance to start for the Birds as Vick was very seriously injured and could very well be out for the rest of the season. The coaching staff may be is using this as an excuse to bench Vick, but either way Foles benefits from this situation.

Andy Reid has already come out and said he is excited about Foles. The 3rd round rookie looked good last week when he stepped in for Vick short notice. I’m rolling Foles out there this week in one league, as I think he has it in him to be a great quarterback for fantasy purposes. Foles’ match-up is ideal, and with time to actually practice with the starters, his timing with the players around him should be greatly improved.

Running Back

Chris Ivory- 11% owned – Ivory was very impressive with his limited work load last week and has the most fantasy upside if given the bulk of the touches. That being said the bulk went to 2009 Heisman trophy winner Mark Ingram. Ingram carried the load solidly but did not seem to have the explosiveness that Ivory possessed. Ivory holds limited value with the return of Sproles in a week or two but until then, we hope the Saints coaching staff will give him more touches so that we can see what he really has to offer fantasy owners.

Marcel Reece- 33% owned – With the questionable return of both Mike Goodson and Daren McFadden, Reece will remain fantasy relevant for at least another week. Heading into this week it was thought that Reece would see the bulk of the touches and Jones would see the bulk of the receptions, but Reece actually saw both. For fantasy owners that were in a bind and started Reece, things went very well as he racked up 13 carries for 48 yards and 7 catches on 9 targets for 56 yards. Reece led the team in targets and his value should rise this week after that performance. He won’t be your rest of the year guy, but he can be your right now guy.

Donald Brown- 54% owned – Brown continues to get more carries than Vick Ballard, which technically makes him an RB1. I would consider his production that of an RB3 as e does not get in the end zone much and Luck will take some opportunity for goal line carries or rushing yards in general away from Brown. But if you are starting Ballard over Brown then you are set up to lose. In my eyes Ballard has more talent but has done nothing to garner more carries. Brown is getting the carries and until that changes if you are using either of these guys it should be Brown.

Wide Receiver

Cecil Shorts- 32% owned – What do you do when you can’t run the ball effectively? Well you throw deep passes in hopes you can get the safeties to quit pinching up. Shorts has had 5 of his 9 games with double digit fantasy points and 3 of his last 4 were seriously worthy of starts. I don’t see this trend changing anytime soon either, the Jags are in desperate need of a spark and Shorts is getting it done. The Jags face the Texans next week so this impressive run could be stuffed, but there’s also the opportunity for GTP (garbage time production) out Shorts, which is really how he has been able to do what he’s done.

Golden Tate- 23% owned – You remember Golden Tate. From that “Touchception” in the Seattle Green Bay game with the replacement refs. -Yeah that guy. Well he’s back, and putting up fantasy points that are hard to ignore. Seattle is on a bye entering week 11, but to get him now would catch many fantasy owners of guard for next week against, the Seahawks faceoff against the Dolphins.

Davone Bess- 20% owned – Bess is a great fantasy replacement option in PPR leagues. He is 22nd in the NFL for targets and has 42 receptions (avg 4.9 per game). Of the 21 fantasy players that have more targets above him, Bess is the only who has yet to find the endzone. -He’s due and a great spot replacement player.

Donnie Avery- 11% owned- T.Y Hilton was the big let down of the week against the Jag’s last Thursday night, mainly due to the return of Avery. Luck seems to have a great rapport with this underrated Colt WR and with at least 4 receptions in his last 5 games, PPR owners in a bind should be grabbing this talented gem.

Danario Alexander 0.1% owned- 5 catches for 134 yards and TD in week 10. Alexander is a serious risk player that may hurt your team, but he is worth grabbing and stashing until we learn more about this recently aquired San Deigo Charger.

Tight End

Scott Chandler- 35% owned – Chandler has not been a steady producer at the tight end position all year, but has had some big games and sees are high number of targets from Fitzpatrick. Chandler is 14th in the league from fantasy production and out performing such players as Jared Cook, Jermichael Finley and Antonio Gates.

Brandon Myers- 40% – Be forewarned Meyers might have a concussion so make sure you are ok with picking him up after knowing this information. Meyers has quietly been the 10th most targeted tight end in the league with an unheard of 77.19% target conversion rate. Meyers has more targets than Dennis Pitta, Owen Daniels, Jacob Tamme, and Jermaine Gresham. If he is good to go this week I will be starting him in one of my leagues.

Kicker

Connor Barth- 22% owned – Barth is the 8th best kicker in fantasy football right now and is still not owned in many leagues. He has only had 4 weeks were he gave you single digit fantasy points and has not given a zero all year. He is a great real life kicker and very solid fantasy football kicker. His Bucs have a great set up on offense and defense and going forward Barth should get plenty of chances to put their team points on the board.

Defense/Special Teams

Tampa Bay- 25% – Like Barth Tampa Bay is just for some reason not owned. I guess the fact that people can pass on them scares away fantasy owners but people still own Dallas’s defense. Come on guys The Bucs have also only scored single digit fantasy numbers 3 times this year and we -2 one week. So four bad weeks all year does not justify not having them in your starting lineup as they are 8th highest scoring defense of the year.
