Fantasy Sleeper Playoff Defenses
Fantasy Sleeper Playoff Defenses
As we head into the last few weeks of the fantasy football regular season, its time to look at a spot on your roster that is often an afterthought, -the team defense (D/ST). Some owners just randomly throw in a defense based on match-ups, but do you really want to use that strategy in the playoffs when all the money is on the line? There are a few defenses that have very favorable match ups during the fantasy football playoffs, that should be available on waiver wires in the majority of leagues. If you are locked into a playoff spot, or have a first round bye, I would advise grabbing one of these defenses a week or two early and stashing them.
Week 14
Cleveland Browns vs. Kansas City Chiefs: Despite having a pretty solid defense, the Browns are still available in most leagues. This is one of the best match ups you could ask for in the first round of the playoffs. Cleveland ranks 4th in the AFC in takeaways with 13 interceptions and 12 forced fumbles. The Chiefs are practically inept on offense, turning the ball over and keeping the points to a minimum. The Browns a must start defense in week 14.
Week 15
Cincinnati Bengals vs. Philadelphia Eagles: The Bengals have been a fairly consistent defense this year. They rank 5th overall in the AFC in total takeaways with eight interceptions and 10 forced fumbles. They will be up against Nick Foles and the rest of the depleted Eagles offense in week 15 so there will be plenty of turnover opportunities. The Eagles rank 2nd in the league in total giveaways with 12 interceptions and 12 fumbles. If the Bengals defense is available on your league’s waiver wire, stash them for week 15.
Week 16
Indianapolis Colts vs. Kansas City Chiefs: Do you see the growing theme here? Start just about any defense against the Kansas City Chiefs and the odds are good. The Colts defense is not what I would call a good defensive play on any given week with the lowest number of takeaways in the NFL. They aren’t a must start, but if you’re desperate, the odds are good that the Indianapolis defense has a good showing against the zombie like Chiefs. They should be available in practically every league.
Week 17
Buffalo Bills vs. New York Jets: The Buffalo defense has been underwhelming to say the least this season after all the money spent in the off-season. Although, they are slowly getting things turned around. When week 17 gets here, there is no telling who Rex Ryan will trot out onto the field as his quarterback. Who knows we may end up seeing Tim Tebow or even Greg McElroy. Regardless there is a good shot for some turnovers here. Most leagues don’t play their Championship in week 17, but if you do, and feel like taking a chance, pick up the Bills.
