Friday Morning Report: End of the World as We Know It?

The way it’s raining here this morning, you could sell this end of the world thing. The Giants aren’t buying it, we don’t think. Not yet, anyway….

Tom Coughlin on what he thinks it will take for the Giants to leave Baltimore with a win Sunday night:

“Take an all out effort. It will take superb execution, better execution than we saw, obviously, last week; a great effort. This team has had eight three-point or less games or fourth quarter games. It seems like every week. I expect it to be the same way. We’re trying to lean real hard on our “finish” theme.”

He was asked if he just sits back and embraces the fact his team is still alive in Week 16:

“I walked into the meeting (earlier this week) and I said, “We have two games to go. If we win both games, we’re in the playoffs.” We’ve been down this road before, backs to the wall; have to play our best, all of the above.”

The Giants are hoping their pass rush can get home this week against the Ravens. They have 32 sacks (tied for 16th in the NFL with Baltimore), which averages about 2.3 per game. Last season they finished with 48 (3 per game), which was two behind the league leaders – the Vikings and Eagles – who both had 50. DE Osi Umenyiora was asked what teams have been doing to stop JPP:

“They’ve been doing the same thing to JPP as they’ve been doing to me and as they’ve been doing to Tuck. They haven’t been paying any special attention to one person, so please don’t get that confused. Everybody is seeing the same things. If we stop the run early, we put them in long distance situations and one guy is really, really coming on strong and that takes the focus off of him and they allow another guy to be in a one on one situation. I think that’s what it’s going to be, but everybody is getting the same treatment out there.”

C David Baas (hip, shoulder), RB Ahmad Bradshaw (knee, foot), G Chris Snee (hip) and DE Justin Tuck (shoulder) did not practice for the Giants yesterday.

CB Prince Amukamara (hamstring), WR Hakeem Nicks (knee), S Kenny Phillips (knee), WR Rueben Randle (back) and S Tyler Sash (hamstring) were limited.

For the Ravens, WR Tandon Doss (ankle), RB Vonta Leach (ankle), LB Jameel McClain (neck), RB Bernard Pierce (head) and S Bernard Pollard (chest) missed practice.

TE Ed Dickson (knee), LB Dannell Ellerbe (ankle), S James Ihedigbo (neck), DT Arthur Jones (shoulder), DE Albert McClellan (thigh, shoulder), WR Torrey Smith (head) and G Marshal Yanda (ankle) were limited. DE Pernell McPhee (thigh), S Ed Reed (shoulder), CB Jimmy Smith (abdomen), LB Terrell Suggs (biceps), WR Deonte Thompson (thigh) and WR LaQuan Williams (thigh) all practiced in full.
