Vikings to Scour for 9 Hidden Yards for AP

The Minnesota Vikings team officials are scouring game tape this season to see if they can find 8 or 9 more rushing yards for Adrian Peterson that went unaccounted for this season. Peterson, who finished 8 yards shy of Eric Dickerson’s single season NFL rushing record, ran for 199 yards yesterday against Green Bay. His final run was a 26 yard dash that set up the game winning field goal by Blair Walsh. Had he broke the final tackle, he would have scampered 11 more yards for a game winning touchdown and his place in history.

While he didn’t get those final yards he needed, the Vikings are searching for the yards themselves. It’s unlikely they will find the 8 or 9 yards he needs because each week the NFL and its official statistician (the Elias Sports Bureau) review discrepancies in the numbers, but that doesn’t mean they won’t try.

“Yeah, if we can find those hidden yards, we would do it,” Frazier said at his press conference Monday. “[The NFL] have different people who will be doing that, but we’ll be doing our own homework, as well. If we can find nine yards, we’re going to find them.”

Regardless, AP’s efforts this season launched the Vikings into the playoffs and a rematch with Green Bay in Lambeau Field. We’ll need another 150+ yard effort from Peterson next weekend if this crazy train should continue.
