Post-Combine Mock Drafts: Giants leaning toward offensive tackle?

The majority of the post-NFL Scouting Combine mock drafts, prognosticators believe the New York Giants will add an offensive player with the 19th pick in the first round.

Of the five most recently updated mocks, three project New York to draft an offensive tackle. Both NFL.com’s Bucky Brooks and CBS Sports’ Will Brinson predict former Alabama tackle D.J. Fluker will be a member of Big Blue at the end of April.

Tony Pauline of USA Today Sports went down a similar path, though instead of Fluker he expects the Giants to bolster the offensive line with one of the combine’s most impressive athletes, Lane Johnson of Oklahoma.

Three offensive linemen — including tackles Will Beatty and Sean Locklear, and guard Kevin Boothe — are all free agents this off-season. Reports have surfaced suggesting Beatty is a option to be hit with the franchise tag. Perhaps drafting an offensive tackle is a back-up plan if a deal cannot be reached.

ESPN draft experts Todd McShay and Mel Kiper Jr. went a different route.

Kiper sides with other prognosticators — that the Giants will look to the offensive side of the ball — but instead believes the team will scoop up former Stanford tight end Zach Ertz. With Martellus Bennett a free agent this off-season, Kiper believers Ertz can be fill the void and actually emerge as a more complete tight end.

Only McShay is under the impression the Giants will look to address the defensive side of the ball. In his latest mock draft, McShay projects New York will select former Georgia linebacker Alec Ogletree to help fill a void left by Michael Boley, who was released earlier this off-season.
