Kevin Boothe remains a Giant priority

ESPN New York suggests the New York Giants’ top priority in  free agency remains re-signing free agent left guard Kevin Boothe.

Boothe, who started all 16 games a season ago for Big Blue, graded out as one of the league’s premier run-blockers. Adding to the need, the Giants do not have an in-house candidate to replace him.

Cruzin’ away?

In addition to Boothe, the team needs to re-sign wideout Victor Cruz.

The Giants placed a first-round tender on Cruz earlier in the week, so if another team were to offer Cruz an even more sizable deal the Giants could match it or receive a first-round pick as compensation.

Reporters such as Adam Schefter of ESPN have indicated because of the shallow wide receiver market in free agency, it may be worth it for a team to spend their first-round draft choice on a younger receiver of Cruz’s caliber.

The Giants and Cruz’s representatives are at a standstill over how Cruz should be paid. The team views Cruz as a slot receiver, whereas Cruz’s agent is asking for No. 1 wide receiver type of dough.

Tynes to go

With the signing of veteran PK Josh Brown Wednesday, the Lawrence Tynes’ run in New York is all but over.

Tynes, a free agent who told the Giants he would test the free-agent market, made 33-of-39 field goals in 2012.
