2014 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Week 11

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

With the fantasy playoffs typically starting in Week 14 in fantasy leagues, that leaves owners with just three weeks to make their playoff push and/or improve their playoff positioning.

The goal of our waiver-wire posts is to help find some options that will help you this week or the rest of the way (or both).

In addition, we strive to give you names of players that are likely available in your leagues so we have a self-imposed rule that all players must be available in at least 50 percent of Yahoo! leagues.

Here are some players to consider adding to your fantasy roster(s) (Yahoo! ownership in parenthesis):

QB – Robert Griffin III, Washington Redskins (45 percent)

Griffin was neither great nor horrible in his return from injury prior to their bye with 14.44 fantasy points (251 passing yards and a score plus 24 rush yards) against the Vikings. With four teams on bye and a favorable matchup in Week 11 against the Bucs, however, RG3 has the potential to finish as a top-12 fantasy quarterback this week especially given his unique athleticism for the position and the team’s talent at the skill positions. Entering last week’s games, the Bucs had surrendered the sixth-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks this season.

QB – Mark Sanchez, Philadelphia Eagles (42 percent)

With Nick Foles (broken collarbone) out for the rest of the fantasy football season, which typically determines champions in Week 16, Sanchez will be the unquestioned starter on a team that runs the second-most plays per game (72.4) and the third-most pass attempts per game (41.6). From Weeks 11 to 16, Sanchez will have four matchups against teams that rank among the four teams that allow the most pass yards per attempt including Washington (allow most Y/A) in Week 16.

QB – Josh McCown, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (14 percent)

If you’re in need of a spot starter, McCown won’t be the worst option over the next couple of weeks. Scoring just shy of 20 fantasy points with 301 yards and two touchdowns in Week 10, McCown will face Washington and Chicago in Weeks 11 and 12. As noted above, no team allows more pass yards per attempt than Washington and Chicago just gave up six pass touchdowns to Aaron Rodgers in one-half of football.

RB – Tre Mason, St. Louis Rams (46 percent)

Yesterday’s matchup against the Cardinals was difficult, but Mason had a productive outing with 81 yards from scrimmage on 18 touches. It’s now the second consecutive week and third time in his past four games that Mason has at least 18 touches. In his past two games, Mason has 38 touches compared to 14 for the rest of the team’s running backs.

RB – Charles Sims, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (30 percent)

It was a modest debut for Sims in a great matchup against the Falcons, but he got as many touches (10) as Bobby Rainey. As I noted previously, I would expect the one-win Bucs to eventually give Sims the majority of touches down the stretch. Not only did they inherit Rainey and The Muscle Hamster, but they used a fairly high (top-70) pick on Sims in this year’s draft.

RB – C.J. Anderson, Denver Broncos (three percent)

Anderson racked up a total of 163 yards from scrimmage and scored in yesterday’s blowout win over the Raiders. Although the Denver Post reported that Ronnie Hillman will miss “at least” two weeks, Montee Ball (groin) is expected to return in Week 11. Either way, Anderson’s upside increases quite a bit with Hillman out for multiple games.

RB – Bryce Brown, Buffalo Bills (16 percent)

More involved this week (13 touches) than he was in his previous game (seven touches), Brown also led the team’s backs in touches in Week 10 and turned those opportunities into 100 YFS. Unfortunately, he lost a fumble at the goal line, which kept him from having a huge game. As Fred Jackson gets healthy, F-Jax should get the most, but Brown is a freak athlete that could see 12 or so touches per game going forward.

RB – Matt Asiata, Minnesota Vikings (36 percent)

If you have started Asiata in the right week, you have been very happy. Oddly enough, Asiata has rushed for either three or zero touchdowns in every game of his career although he has games with a single receiving touchdown. While I’d prefer Jerick McKinnon and you certainly can’t count on three-TD games, Asiata is getting the valuable goal-line opportunities and he now has four receptions (five targets) in back-to-back games as well.

RB – Jonas Gray, New England Patriots (nine percent)

Gray now has back-to-back games with at least 12 carries, but he’s clearly a distant second in terms of value among the team’s running backs behind Shane Vereen. With the Patriots going to Indianapolis in Week 11, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Patriots look to run the ball a lot to keep Andrew Luck and the high-powered Colts offense off the field. That said, predicting how Belichick will allocate carries seems to be an impossible endeavor.

WR – Allen Robinson, Jacksonville Jaguars (36 percent)

The Jaguars have their bye in Week 11, but Robinson had five catches for 60 yards on 10 targets in Week 10. Robinson now has 60-plus yards in four of his past five games and has at least seven targets in eight consecutive games including double-digit targets in half of those. Excluding the wide receivers from tonight’s (Monday night’s) game, Robinson has finished as a top-25 wide receiver in three of his past four outings.

WR – Greg Jennings, Minnesota Vikings (28 percent)

Before the team’s Week 10 bye, Jennings had scored at least 7.6 fantasy points in three consecutive games. While the upside is limited, he has finished as a top-36 wide receiver in each of those weeks. Jennings has seen a minimum of six targets in five consecutive games and has six catches and at least 76 yards in two of his past three games. The Vikes have a nice four-game schedule for their receivers as they will face the Bears, Packers, Panthers and Jets.

WR – Dwayne Bowe, Kansas City Chiefs (48 percent)

While all 11 of the team’s passing touchdowns have gone to running backs or tight ends, Bowe leads the team in both receptions (39) and yards (491). Those numbers are modest, but the good news is that Bowe has double-digit targets in back-to-back games with at least five catches and 55 yards in four consecutive games.

WR – John Brown, Arizona Cardinals (19 percent)

Like with any rookie receiver, there will be some inconisistency with owning Brown and we’ve seen that in his past three games: 17.9, 0.7 and 13.3 fantasy points. The good news is that his opportunities are increasing. In those two big games, Brown got 10 and nine targets, respectively, and those are his two highest totals to date. And any time he touches the ball, his elite speed gives him the potential to take it to the house.

WR – Davante Adams, Green Bay Packers (19 percent)

If you started Adams in Week 10 (in season-long or DFS leagues), you were obviously disappointed. On a night that Rodgers throws six touchdowns, Adams finished with only one catch for 10 yards on two targets. Before last week, however, Adams had four consecutive top-40 finishes. With Rodgers at quarterback, there is potential for a third wide receiver (after Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb) to be productive and the Pack get a favorable matchup against Philadelphia’s porous secondary in Week 11.

WR – Jarvis Landry, Miami Dolphins (11 percent)

Landry had seven catches on 10 targets, both of which are season highs, for 53 yards in Week 10. Especially for folks in deeper PPR leagues, Landry has some value as he’s averaging 4.6 receptions per game since Week 2.

TE – Mychal Rivera, Oakland Raiders (32 percent)

Going into Monday Night Football, Rivera is the TE4 for Week 10 and this marks a third consecutive week that he will finish as a top-10 fantasy tight end. Helped by a garbage-time tight end, Rivera finished with a 6/64/1 line on eight targets and now has 21/185/3 on 28 targets over his past three games.

TE – Kyle Rudolph, Minnesota Vikings (30 percent)

After having sports hernia surgery, Rudolph hasn’t played since Week 3, but there’s a good chance that he will return in Week 11 against the Bears. If so, it’s perfect timing as the Bears have allowed the most fantasy points to opposing tight ends this season.

TE – Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (two percent)

Seferian-Jenkins finished with season highs of five catches and nine targets in Week 10 and more importantly, he scored his second touchdown in his past three games. ASJ has only 59 receiving yards in those three games, but his red-zone abilities make him worth a look in deeper leagues.
