Notes From Ravens OTAs

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Here are a few notes from today’s OTAs in no particular order of importance:

Nine players were missing from today’s voluntary practice:

Marshal Yanda (shoulder rehab)
Terrell Suggs (coach’s decision)
CJ Mosley (shoulder)
Ben Watson
Darren Waller
Kyle Arrington (concussion protocol)
Jarell Broxton
Carlos Davis (UDFA)
Maxx Williams (knee)

Williams was watching today’s practice from the sideline. During his post-practice presser John Harbaugh explained that the Ravens tight end is recovering well from his knee surgery, one that was described as unprecedented for a football player. The third-year player is expected to be a full go by training camp according to Harbaugh… Michael Campanaro ran with the first-team from the slot today. Chris Moore also worked from the slot but if today is any indication, he’s behind Campanaro on the depth chart…Breshad Perriman received praise from Dennis Pitta, saying that no one is making more plays in OTAs than the former Central Florida Knight.

The first team offensive line (with Yanda out) from left to right today was: Stanley-Lewis-Jensen-Urschel-Hurst. It’s still very early and it’s difficult to read between the lines at this lineup, but I’ll take a stab anyway. Ryan Jensen will be given an opportunity to earn the starting center job, much like Ricky Wagner was given a similar opportunity in 2014 following Michael Oher’s departure. Jensen’s body style (described as 320 pounds with less than 20% body fat) is ideally suited for offensive assistant Greg Roman’s running attack… I’ll assume for now that Urschel is a fill in but if he plays well, could Yanda be a consideration at right tackle? … If there’s a free agent to be pursued along the offensive front, the bet here is it will be a right tackle.

Terrance West, Kenneth Dixon and Danny Woodhead got the majority of snaps at tailback. Buck Allen was used sparingly and Lorenzo Taliaferro was given more looks at fullback than at tailback… Kamalei Correa assumed Zach Orr’s old “Will” LB spot. With Mosley recovering from shoulder surgery, Albert McClellan was the “Mike” today… Nothing notable regarding the new edge rushers Tyus Bowser and Tim Williams. Bowser lined up at the “Sam” LB spot and was very active. He’s been described by one team source as a “freakish” athlete. Williams was somewhat quiet, but these types of practices are difficult to assess. Sometimes they are more cerebral than physical in order to get players to understand their assignments, particularly the young guys.

Overall, per usual for this time of year, the defense was ahead of the offense.
