Jordan Thompson and Thanasi Kokkinakis Beaten at Queen's Club Tennis Tournament

Australia’s involvement at Queen’s Club has come to an abrupt end with Jordan Thompson and Thanasi Kokkinakis unable to repeat their first-round giant-killing exploits.

Thompson, who knocked out world No.1 Andy Murray on Tuesday, went down in three sets to giant 28th-ranked American Sam Querrey 7-6 (7-3) 3-6 6-3.

Milos Raonic’s conqueror Thanasi Kokkinakis was humbled 6-2 6-2 by Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in just under an hour in a bitterly disappointing performance.

Thompson, who entered the main draw as a lucky loser, will head to Wimbledon in good spirits despite his defeat but said he was frustrated at not doing enough to back up from the biggest win of his career.

“I hadn’t been broken all match, then got broken twice in a row,” he said.

“I had a love-40 opportunity (in the third set) and didn’t take it. That’s tennis I guess.”

“I should’t have even been in the draw so to get a couple of matches is some good preparations for Wimbledon.”

Kokkinakis was searingly honest in his assessment of a performance he labelled the worst of his career, a week after losing to the same opponent in the Netherlands.

The South Australian got off to the worst possible start when he was broken in the first game of the match.

He then had no answer to the serving and returning game of the 21-year-old from Moscow who wrapped up the victory in 59 minutes.

“He was very good. I will give him credit. He made a lot of balls, knew how to play,” Kokkinakis said.

“I thought I didn’t play a great match against him last week but this was worse. I don’t think I played this bad before ever.”

Former US Open champion Marin Cilic, a former Queen’s winner, looked in imperious form as he dispatched American qualifier Stefan Kozlov 6-0 6-4 and will face American Donald Young for a place in the semi-finals.

Young, who benefited from Nick Kyrgios’ retirement on Monday, beat Viktor Troick in straight sets.

In the day’s other match, big-serving Spaniard Feliciano Lopez beat Jeremy Chardy of France 6-1 7-6 (7-4).

Querrey will face Gilles Muller in the last-eight with Young to meet Cilic. Medvedev takes on Grigor Dimitrov and Tomas Berych faces off against Lopez.
