Outstanding Winning Streak For Our Yankees!

With all the offense you could ask for in one weekend, the Yankees are steamrolling through their AL East rivals seemingly like they are just standing still, anticipating the beating.  Even @Marlins_Man found the long trek from Saturday’s Belmont Stakes to the Stadium ultimately a waste of time as he arrived in the second inning with the Bombers dominating the Orioles 9-0, which included a Starlin Castro 3-run laser-like home run.  The team is rolling toward a franchise record pace in home runs and by the 8th inning the Yankees had their fifth home run of the game, with Gary Sanchez‘s 2-run home run topping the Yankees run total to 16 over the Orioles’ 2.  The Yankees eventually beat the O’s 16-3.

Every Yankee has a role to play in the journey toward #28, including Chase Headley, whose seems to be taking on the role of “get the pitcher to raise his count and waste as much pitches as possible.” Guys like Ronald Torreyes and Rob Refsnyder step in at a moment’s notice to contribute where needed and our regulars, a nice mix of old and new, are doing their job, consistently every night.  Even on night’s when our offense is quieter, the Yankees are in it until the end, giving it everything they have.

Two stats the YES Network threw out after Saturday’s game are: 
1. The Yankees are outscoring their opponents 41-6 over the last four games. 
2. It has been nine years since the Yankees have scored eight or more runs in four consecutive games. 

And although no one thought the Yankees could be this good this fast, Hank Steinbrenner remains optimistic. “You never know, even though Houston right now looks like the ’27 Yankees or maybe the ’65 Dodgers with their pitching,” Steinbrenner said. “But you never know this year. I’m not saying it couldn’t happen this year. It sure . . . could, obviously. But we’re hoping to keep growing,” reported Newsday.

Our pitching is getting more consistent and more dangerous to our opponents with every outing. Leaving out Masahiro Tanaka‘s unfortunate inconsistencies and lack of confidence, the Yankee rotation has been stellar, anchored by two rookies in Jordan Montgomery and Luis Severino.

“You’ve got a kid who goes out there and grinds through some stuff. He’s just a bulldog out there. He attacks the zone, he’s not afraid of hitters. The guy makes pitches when he needs to make pitches,” said Yankee catcher, Austin Romine about Montgomery as reported by the Associated Press after Friday’s game.

And Severino was perfect into the fifth inning on Saturday night, and ended the game with eight strikeouts besting his record to 5-2, and quickly rising as one of the most dominant pitchers in the American League.  Keep in mind, as Romine reminded us last week, the only person who did not think he was capable of pitching like this was Severino himself.  He is growing in confidence everyday and demonstrating his potential to the Yankees and all of baseball.

This has been an incredible win streak for the Yankees and we are just getting started.  We have one more game against the O’s and then the Bombers head to the West Coast for games against the Los Angeles Angels and Oakland A’s.  The Yankees definitely need to test the waters outside of their league and continue to improve against opponents who have traditionally given them trouble, like Houston and Texas.  But for now, the Yankees are riding high and this feeling continues to be contagious for our 2017 team.
