Barry Bonds Uniform Retirement

Saturday August 11, 2018 marks the date that San Francisco Giants fans have been waiting for…. No it’s not the call to the Hall of Fame, but it’s something that all Giants fans will really appreciate! It’s the day that Barry Bonds will have his jersey #25 officially retired! No one has put that number on since Bonds, and no one ever will… This is only the 10th time in the Giants’ 136-year history that they’ll retire a uniform number.

15 Years With Giants

Bonds was a member of the Giants from 1993-2007. In those 15-years, Bonds hit .312 with 381 doubles, 41 triples, 586 homers and 1,440 RBI in 1,976 games in the Orange & Black! I’m sure if you wanted to look into the Giants record books, Bonds would be at the top or near the top in a bunch of categories.

Bonds played 22 seasons in the Major Leagues and his first 7 season were with the Pittsburgh Pirates. There’s been some noise that fans were trying to get the Pirates to also retire Bonds uniform number there as well… Some players since have used his #24 Pirates number.

7 Years With Pirates (prior to Giants)

In 7-years for the Pirates, Bonds hit .275 with 220 doubles, 36 tirples, 176 homers and 556 RBI in 1,010 games! Speculation was that Bonds was well on his way to being in the Hall of Fame, long before he put up the ridiculous numbers he did for the Giants!
