Aaron Rodgers Still “Day to Day” but Could Play For Packers Without Practicing This Week
The Packers are one team that actually takes the practice field on Saturday, and with that it might just be the biggest aspect for the team to be able to have all-world quarterback Aaron Rodgers set for action this Sunday as the team takes on NFC North Rival the Minnesota Vikings.
If you are betting with Betstars, the Packers are a slight favorite for the game, mostly because it is a home game and a huge early NFC North showdown, but right now the line is just 2.5 in favor for Green Bay, and most of the time the home team is a three-point favorite anyway.
Rodgers did not practice again on Thursday, and Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said on Friday “nothing’s changed” and that the quarterback is “clearly day-to-day. He’s clearly day to day. Hopefully he’ll do work tomorrow, but I can’t answer that question.”
Rodgers was hurt last week in the teams’ wild comeback win over the Chicago Bears, as the Packers rallied with 21 points in the fourth quarter for the one-point win over yet another NFC North rival in the Monsters of the Midway.
There was some good news about Rodgers, and that came from coach McCarthy, who said that “He feels better than he did at the beginning of the week,” McCarthy said. “Tomorrow’s practice will be a big indicator.”
That goes back to what we said about the Packers taking the field on Saturday, if Rodgers is not ready to play, team might have to turn to backup DeShone Kizer, a player who threw a pick six in the game against the Bears when he came in Sunday night at Lambeau Field.
“He can play with no reps. We’ve established that point some time ago in his career. You’d like to walk off the field Saturday and have your plan set, but this is the NFL. Things happen. We’ll be ready for anything. I know he wants to play. We’ll see how it goes,” McCarthy said.
It will be interesting to see if the team does allow Rodgers to play without taking a rep in practice, but it feels like that’s the way the Packers are leaning, and right now without being able to take the field at all, it seems like somewhat of a risk this early in the season for the Packers to put Rodgers out there not at 100 percent than sitting him for a week, even against the Vikings, in a game in week two than letting him heal and get ready for the rest of the 2018 season.
