Bucs Signing of WR Breshad Perriman a Deal That Should Pay Off in 2019

The Buccaneers helped out their wide out core following the deal to trade unhappy receiver DeSean Jackson to the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this week, as the team inked former first-round pick Breshad Perriman.

Perriman comes to the Bucs on a one-year, $4 million deal, and if you check any New York sportsbook you can see that this type of signing should help the team’s chances in the NFC South.

It was thought that Perriman was going to be back in Cleveland with the Browns in 2019, but with Cleveland making a mega deal on Tuesday with the Giants for wide out Odell Beckham Jr., the team no longer needed Perriman’s services, which helped him land with the Bucs.

The former first-round pick last season was very good with Cleveland after coming over from the Baltimore Ravens, catching 16 passes for 340 yards and a pair of scores, and he averaged 21.3 yards per catch.

His best season was his rookie year with the Ravens in 2016, catching 33 passes for 499 yards and three scores. That’s more of what the Bucs will be looking for as he’s likely slotted to be the second receiver on the team opposite of Mike Evans.

Adam Humphries last season pulled in 76 catches for 716 yards and five scores, while Evans had 86 catches for 1524 yards and eight scores.

If the Bucs can get 500-600 yards out of Perriman and he can be a solid third down wide out, he will be worth the four-million the team gave him this past week.

The Bucs have had a solid first week of free agency, as they signed punter Bradley Pinion (4 years, $11-million) and Perriman to solid deals and also on Saturday the team brought in offensive lineman Earl Watford with a one-year deal.

The team will likely now look to add some depth and some backup players as well, as quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is likely leaving, as is safety Brent Grimes, two players that will have to be replaced at some point in the 2019 campaign.
