Browns TE David Njoku Says the Team Has Super Bowl Aspirations in 2019

If there is one Browns player who seems more excited as anyone to get the 2019 NFL season underway it’s tight end David Njoku.

The third-year tight end has been outspoken about former coach Hue Jackson, has stated that the team is going to make the playoffs, and now is upping his game and saying that the goal for this year’s Browns is pretty simple – get to the final game of the NFL season – the Super Bowl.

Njoku spoke to NJ.com on Saturday while on the field at Cedar Grove High School, where he hosted a free youth football fundamentals camp in his hometown.

“I know what you want to hear,” the tight end said.

“We are trying to do what we can to go all the way, which is indeed go to the Super Bowl.”

Last season as the Browns went 7-8-1 in the midst of a coaching change mid-season, the tight end hauled in 56 passes for 639 yards and four touchdowns.

This year the ante is up after the Browns made a mega trade for Giants wide out Odell Beckham Jr. Count Njoku as a big fan of Odell, a longtime friend who he knows will only make the team’s offense better.

“He is a crazy athlete and a crazy receiver,” Njoku said

“Once we realized we had him locked in, we’re excited. We have a great team. It’s up to us to take advantage of this opportunity.”

There were some that were concerned after Beckham did not attend early OTA’s for the Browns, but once he showed up at the team’s mandatory workouts he quickly made a big impact to everyone, Njoku included.

“Phenomenal, really,” Njoku said. “He’s a great teammate and a great person. We all know what he brings to the table. He makes crazy plays and we’re excited to have him on the team. I actually knew him prior to him getting traded … same old dude.”

No one is denying that the Browns offense won’t be fun to watch in 2019. If it’s ‘super’ enough to get to the big dance in early February remains to be seen, but the expectations among Browns players is definitely there.
