Former Jets First-Round Draft Pick Mark Sanchez Retires; To Join ESPN
At one point Mark Sanchez was the King of New York. After 10 seasons and a very up and down career in the NFL, the former first-round draft choice is calling it a career.
The NY Post reports that Sanchez has officially retired from the NFL after 10 seasons.
The Jets got who they felt would be a long time franchise QB when they took him with the fifth pick in the 2009 NFL Draft out of USC.
He led the team to two AFC Title Games in his first two seasons (losing to the Colts and Steelers), and never reached the same heights after that.
After five years with the Jets, Sanchez bounced around the NFL in stints with the Eagles, Bears, Cowboys, and Redskins.
In his last NFL action, Sanchez was forced into a Week 14 spot start for the Redskins when Colt McCoy got injured last year but was so bad he was replaced in the third quarter by journeyman Josh Johnson, who had been out of the league just the week before.
He finishes his career with a 56.6 completion percentage, 15,357 yards, and an 86:89 TD/INT ratio.
The 32-year-old Sanchez is set to become a college football analyst for ESPN.
