Three Questions About the Texans as Training Camp Gets Closer

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Following a season in which the Texans won the AFC South with a mark of 11-5, the team still fell short of its ultimate goal, losing in a wild card game to the AFC South rival Colts at home.

Now that the calendar has turned to July, the start of training camp is closing in and things are ramping up for the franchise to get ready for 2019.

Today we take a quick look at three questions about this team as they get set to embark on what they hope will be a season playing into early February.

1. Red Zone Issues

Last season the Texans scored touchdowns in 50 percent of their trips in the red zone, scoring touchdowns in 30 of 60 trips.

That number has got to get better in 2019, as not being able to get the ball over the goal line was a major issue for this club in close games.

Whatever or however, the team has got to be more successful in that department, as settling for field goals really hurt the club in 2018.

2. Division Success

The Texans in 2018 went 4-2 in the division, but in the end their biggest loss came in the playoffs, as they fell to the Colts in an awful game 21-7 on January 5th at home.

The team lost in Tennessee in week two, and at home against Indy 24-21 on December 9th. The division should be better in 2019, and if the Texans want to repeat as divisional champs, they have to play great again against the division foes.

Houston has just one divisional game in the first six weeks, meaning a lot of their AFC South games are back loaded for later in the season.

3. Someone Other Than Hopkins

DeShaun Watson loves to go to his favorite wide out DeAndre Hopkins, but if this offense is going to be even better in 2019 they’ve got to find 1-2 more receivers to catch the ball.

Will Fuller is currently listed as the starter opposite of Hopkins, he played in seven games last season catching 32 passes for 503 yards and four scores.

Vyncint Smith, Jester Weah, and rookie Johnnie Dixon will all get extended looks in camp to try to make plays for this team.
