42-Year-Old Vince Carter to Return for His 22nd Season to Play for the Hawks

Vince Carter has stayed in amazing shape throughout his NBA career, and the likely future Hall of Famer isn’t ready to call it quits just yet.

Check this out, Carter is set to return to the NBA for one final ride, announcing on Monday that he is coming back to the Atlanta Hawks for another season – his 22nd in the NBA.

The 42-year-old will set a record with 22 years in the league, passing Dirk Nowitzki, Kevin Garnett, Kevin Willis and Robert Parish, all of whom played 21 NBA seasons.

If there’s one thing about Carter, it’s that he not only can be a great mentor to the very young Hawks, it’s also that he can still play at a very high level for someone over 40 years of age.

If Carter can make it into next year and play a game in 2020, he will be the first player in NBA history to appear in a game in four different decades, according to Elias Sports Bureau research.

Considering the age of the Hakws and how they struggled last season, Carter did his part in the time that he was on the court.

He averaged 7.4 points in 17 minutes a game for the Hawks in 2018-19, which included him playing 76 regular-season games, not bad for a player over 40 at all.

No one will ever forget how Carter entered the league as one of its most popular and dynamic players of his generation.

With Toronto and New Jersey Carter was one of the better players in the league, and overall he has averaged 17 points in 1,481 regular-season games, and he won an Olympic gold medal and NBA dunk contest in 2000.

Carter also won the NBA’s Rookie of the Year award in 1999, starting a career that could end with him with a bust in the Basketball Hall of Fame someday.

If there’s one thing about Carter that he’s missing it’s a ring to his resume. Sadly unless he gets traded, he won’t get one with the Atlanta Hawks, one of the youngest teams in the NBA that will struggle just to make it in the East as a possible eighth-seed in the upcoming season.

Carter though likely understands his role for the team this season, and that is to help out younger players and get them ready for hopefully someday a run in the city of Atlanta.

If he does play, look for him to still contribute to the Hawks, but overall it’s a ride that will end without a playoff appearance or a ring for the dynamic Carter.
