Aaron Rodgers to Get in Some Preseason Work Thursday Against the Ravens

Last week the Packers fell to the Houston Texans 28-26 in their preseason opener, and if you would have used a betrivers promotions you could have seen that wasn’t too much of a shock considering most of the Packers starters didn’t play in the contest.

That will change in a big way this week, as NFL.com is reporting that all-world quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers starters will get in some preseason work this week versus the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night.

The move to amp things up is not too much of a surprise, as usually teams start to play their starters more in game two, and it should be a good measuring stick just to see where this offense and defense is at this point, even if it’s only for a quarter.

Coach Matt LaFleur told reporters Tuesday that Rodgers and the rest of the starting groups on both sides of the ball would play “a quarter or so” depending on how things shake out.

Rodgers sat out the Packers preseason opener, but needing an immersion in LaFleur’s new offense, the quarterback is likely to play more than in the past under Mike McCarthy.

The Packers quarterback doesn’t need a ton of playing time as evidenced by years past, as last season he not only got the win in the opener over the Chicago Bears, but came on after being injured in the game, rallying the team to lead them to a win that many felt would set the pace for the season.

The biggest thing is for this team to be able to run some of their first team offense as well as defense, but also see how this team is going to go when things get tight.

They will likely get a chance to see Baltimore first-string quarterback Lamar Jackson, who is not only going to be the Ravens starter come opening day, but also is expected to be one of the more interesting players in the entire NFL, a player that can not only run but hopefully for the Ravens can get the ball downfield.

The Packers following Thursday’s game against the Ravens will have a road game against the Oakland Raiders, the team from ‘Hard Knocks,’ this season, and then will wrap up the preseason back at Lambeau Field on August 29th at 7pm as they will take on the Kansas City Chiefs.
