Undrafted RB Damarea Crockett Impressing the Texans Coaching Staff in Camp

The Texans made some waves a few days back with the release of running back D’onta Foreman, a former third-round pick who many thought could eventually be a lead back for the team.

If you check online sports betting ny the odds for the Texans have not changed much since the original odds came out back in February, but the emergence of one running back might help this team out with those odds.

That player is rookie undrafted running back Damarea Crockett. A recent report from The Athletic says that Crockett has “positioned himself as the current roster’s most natural replacement for the role [D’onta] Foreman could’ve had.”

The big question about Crockett is if he will be able to take Foreman’s spot in the team’s offense in terms of what the team felt Foreman would do this season.

Foreman last season played in just one game, but the Texans had high hopes for him but Foreman suffered a torn Achilles while scoring a touchdown in Week 11. The injury was suffered without contact and would keep him off the field until late in the 2018 season.

Crockett decided to turn pro as a true junior after three seasons at the University of Missouri but went undrafted, and the Texans were able to scoop him up as a player who had potential but injuries really did him in.

The back lost momentum after a great freshman season. As a sophomore a shoulder injury ended his season in 2017 and he was part of a running back committee in 2018.

He was able to bounce back with a solid Pro Day with a 4.4-flat forty and 37-inch vertical. While many thought it wouldn’t be early, it came as a surprise when after averaging 5.9 yards per carry at Mizzou he did not get drafted by some team looking for running back help.

While it’s early in camp, Crockett seems to be showing the coaching staff of the Texans what he can do, and he seems to be playing with a chip on his shoulder.

Josh Ferguson, Karan Higdon, Buddy Howell and Taiwan Jones are other names currently looking for playing time for the Texans behind starting running back Lamar Miller.

The 21-year-old Crockett is in the mix for some of that playing time, and if he can keep up what he’s already shown, he just might be the surprise make not only of the roster, but also for playing time once the 2019 season starts in Houston.
