Dolphins Trade Safety Pick Minkah Fitzpatrick to Pittsburgh for Their 2020 First-Round Pick

The complete tear down of the Dolphins continued on Monday night, as the team dealt 2018 first-round pick free safety Minkah Fitzpatrick to the Pittsburgh Steelers for their 2020 first-round pick.

Adam Schefter of ESPN broke the story of the deal, which comes one day after the Fins were blasted by rival New England 43-0, dropping the team to 0-2.

The Fins have not been afraid to make deals this offseason and now into the season, and it shows on the field as the team has been outscored in two games by a total of 102-10, the biggest margin in two games to start a season in the NFL’s modern era.

If you are looking for the bright side of the deal, it once again gives the Dolphins another pick to play with down the road.

With trading away most of the talent on the team, the franchise has three first-round picks in next years NFL Draft.

Miami drafted Fitzpatrick with the 11th overall pick in last year’s draft out of Alabama. In two games this season he was credited with 12 tackles as well as a fumble recovery.

After the Dolphins opening day 59-10 beat down by the Ravens, Fitzpatrick asked to be traded as he felt he was being played in the wrong position.

With the status of the team as it is, the Dolphins were more than happy to grant him his wish, pulling the trigger in getting a first from the usually conservative Steelers.

There are more picks involved in the deal, as the Steelers will send a 2020 fourth-round pick and a 2021 seventh-round pick, in exchange for a first- and fifth-round pick in 2020 and 2021 sixth-round pick.

If you’re counting, Fitzpatrick joins Laremy Tunsil and Kenny Stills as the latest three players dealt by the Dolphins in what is nothing more than a tear down to rebuild for what they hope will be a much better future.
