Jets Jolted by Browns 23-3 in Prime Time Spotlight to Drop to 0-2

The Jets put up what could be considered a solid fight Monday night based on the circumstances, but in the end they just had no offense to speak of, suffering their second loss of 2019 falling to the Cleveland Browns 23-3.

New York lost their backup quarterback Trevor Siemian to an ankle injury, and Luke Falk took over the offense, but really did nothing to excite the fans that showed up hoping the Jets could pull out their first win of the season.

Instead Jets fans watched shaking their heads as former Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. put the game away with an 89-yard touchdown that put Cleveland up 23-3 with 3:32 to play in the third quarter.

Here’s a couple quick observations from the 20-point Jets setback.

1. Terrible Night for the “O”

Fans had probably expected the New York offense to have issues minus Sam Darnold, but to think that the team at one point in the second half would be minus 13 yards passing is stunning to say the least.

But that’s where the team was at, as they lost Trevor Siemian and Luke Falk did nothing early but throw check downs and hand the ball off, not giving the Jets offense much of a chance.

The team finished with 262 total yards, and Falk actually wasn’t awful as a third-string QB, going 20-for-25 for 198 yards.

In the end, it was just a futile effort by the offense in general.

2. Odell Gets the Last Laugh

Browns WR Odell Beckham didn’t need any extra motivation, but Jets DC Gregg Williams gave him some during his dumb comments on Friday when he said ‘who’ when referring to Beckham.

Williams and the rest of the Jets D knew who Odell was as he was racing downfield for an 89-yard score to put the game away late in the third quarter.

The Jets D actually did a decent job given they were without C.J Mosley, and a number of times they got to Baker Mayfield and held him for the most part in check – minus the back breaking play to Beckham.

3. Falk Set to Get an Audition

It’s looking like Jet fans are going to get an extended look at 3rd string QB Luke Falk, as he is going to more than likely get the start for New York Sunday when they travel to New England to take on the Pats.

What a way to break into the league, as New England has dominated in their two wins, topping Pittsburgh and Miami by a combined score of 76-3.

Falk got comfortable about three series into the game taking the spot of an injured Trevor Siemian, and he and Robbie Anderson had something going there for a bit before the Browns stopped the Jets on fourth down deep in Cleveland territory.

The new Jets starter is going to get an education from the Pats right out the gate Sunday, he’d better spend all day and night learning the playbook at this point.
