Problems on Both Sides of the Ball Continue to Plague the Giants in 2019

Sunday’s home loss to the Arizona Cardinals was downright ugly for the Giants. The team looked like they should have matched up well with first overall pick in the draft Kyler Murray, but instead it was Murray making big plays and showing off his stuff to give Arizona an early lead.

If you check Michigan Lottery Promos they always seem to be running promotions for their lotto games based around football, and maybe before their next game the Giants ought to grab some tickets and play some of those games.

The issues were all over on Sunday. Their defense had no early answers for Murray, and the Giants offense led by their wonder rookie – Daniel Jones – did little to give people hope that the G-Men would be able to get back into the game.

Figure this – the Giants are now 2-9-1 against the spread in their last 12 home games after losing by six to the Cardinals.

There’s no question that going to MetLife Stadium to play the Giants right now does not fear other teams. Murray and the Cards offense showed that early.

They threw when they wanted, and even without a 100 percent healthy David Johnson they turned to Chase Edmonds, who ran in a 20-yard score and another later on to build the Cardinals lead.

Edmonds was on a mission – the 2018 fourth-round draft pick out of Fordham had his breakout game with 27 rushing attempts for 126 yards (4.7 yards per carry) and three rushing touchdowns. Edmonds also added 24 yards on two receptions.

It would be nice to see Daniel Jones and the Giants offense hold on to the ball for a bit and put some sort of momentum in a game together.

In the rain Sunday that was tough to do, as Jones had three fumbles, and it seems like he is going backwards instead of getting better – asking some if it’s time to give him a break.

Giants coach Pat Shurmur is now fielding question about the rookie’s starting status should the turnovers continue, and it seems like he’s got no motives to go back to Eli Manning.

“No,” Shurmur answered, via team transcript, when asked Monday if he would consider making a switch at quarterback.

“I think Daniel is going to learn from everything that’s going on. Just like all the other rookies and their playing, they’re going to learn from the things that happen. But you have to learn and you have to win games, and I’m well aware of that. I’m totally well aware of that.”

So while it’s easy to put the blame on the offense for another slow start, when the Giants take the field this week against the Lions at Ford Field.

Let’s see if they can go toe-to-toe with a team that hung in with the Minnesota Vikings in a shootout last week.
