Cowboys TE Jason Witten Says He Intends to Keep Playing, Even If It’s Not in Dallas

Long time Cowboys tight end Jason Witten retired two years ago, but now not only did he return to to playing in 2019, he’s interested in playing again in 2020.

Even if it’s not with the Cowboys, the team he has been with his entire career.

Witten said that he understands the business of the game, and while it would be tough to leave Dallas to play elsewhere, he knows it may come down to that.

“I just think, yeah, coaching is in my future, but right now, I want to play while I can,” Witten said via the Cowboys official site.

“We’ll see where that takes place. Of course, I want that to be with the Dallas Cowboys. I’ll always be a Dallas Cowboy. But I also understand that, with all the changes, I may have to go somewhere else.”

Witten played well in 2019, catching 63 passes for 529 yards with four touchdowns. While it was the lowest amount of yards since his rookie year, remember he was returning from being one of the talking heads on ESPN’s “Monday Night Football.”

There’s been rumors that the 37-year-old may end up with an NFC East rival, the Giants, due to his relationship with new Giants offensive coordinator and former Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett.

Witten last season ranked eighth in receptions and 14th in yards among all tight ends last season. If he can even duplicate those numbers in 2020, there’s no reason the bruising tight end should hang up his cleats anytime soon.
