Bills Gut Out Tough Divisional Win Over Miami 31-28 to Move to 2-0

When the Bills looked at their schedule and saw two divisional opponents in the first two weeks of 2020, they knew it was a chance to make a statement.

Mission accomplished.

The Bills beat the Jets at home a week ago with relative ease, but this week on the road in South Florida had a much tougher time as a road favorite, but still topped the Dolphins 31-28.

Buffalo moves to 2-0 on the season, atop the AFC East while they will sit back and watch Cam Newton and the Patriots play on Sunday night against the Seattle Seahawks on the road.

Josh Allen continues to make huge strides in year two, as he threw for 417 yards and four scores in the victory.

The team did rush for a total of 111 yards in the win, with Devin Singletary leading the way for the Bills with 56 yards.

As stated, it wasn’t easy, as the Bills found themselves trailing 20-17 with 10:11 left to play after the Dolphins scored on a two-yard run by Jordan Howard.

Allen and the Bills offense though would not be denied, as Allen threw a pair of scores in less than three minutes, one to Gabriel Davis from six yards out and a 46-yard score to John Brown to take a 31-20 lead.

Miami did score the last touchdown with 49 seconds left, but the onside kick was recovered by the Bills to put the game away.

“There are games when the offense has to step up,” Allen said. “This was one of those games.”

Maybe the most impressive throw of the day was the one Allen made to Brown, as it sealed the game after just minutes before the Bills found themselves trailing for the first time.

“He’s got ice water in his veins,” coach Sean McDermott said. “No moment is too big for him.”

The game was suspended for 36 minutes in the third quarter due to lightning in the area. After the delay, the Dolphins offense got a spark and scored 10 consecutive points to take the 20-17 lead with just over 10 minutes to play.

Then the ever improving Allen stepped up, making key throws and runs to put Buffalo right back in the lead and getting them to a 2-0 start.

“There was no panic,” Allen said. “It was just, `Let’s go. Let’s get six.”

Up next for the Bills is a matchup with Jared Goff and the Los Angeles Rams, a team the Bills have not seen since 2016.
