Exeter at the double

Well done again to Exeter Chiefs for achieving a well-deserved double on Saturday, adding the Premiership title to their Champions Cup win.

In a surreal setting – an empty stadium, an evening kick off and driving rain almost throughout – Exeter just managed to hold off a Wasps team who also deserve huge credit for being so competitive despite the huge Covid-induced disruptions they suffered in the last week.

Exeter have easily been the best team in the Premiership this season, so their coronation was quite fitting.

They are now one of those rare teams to achieve a European and domestic double. Ten years after having been promoted to the Premiership, that really is quite some achievement.

Perhaps now they can move on and put the last couple of seasons’ disappointments behind them. Perhaps we shall also now get less Saracens-related bleating?
