No ban for Swing Low

And so, after a review by the RFU, it seems that England supporters will not, after all, be banned from singing Swing Low, Sweet Chariot at Twickenham.

Not that there will be any supporters at Twickenham for the foreseeable future, but hey.

Of course the RFU were never going to outlaw the song, simply on the basis that any ban would be nigh on impossible to enforce.

Nevertheless I would like to think that, when we are eventually allowed back in to rugby stadia, the majority of fans would re-consider singing what has, out of context, become a dull, out-dated, inappropriate dirge. I have no realistic expectation, however, that this will happen.

At least the RFU have had the decency to stop promoting the song and exploiting it commercially. Thank heavens for small mercies.
