Six Nations 2021 - Round 3 Prediction (revisited)

And so to the final fixture of this year’s Six Nations as Scotland travel to Paris to play the fixture previously postponed following the Covid outbreak in French ranks last month.

Arguably the fixture should not be going ahead – despite the official verdict I refuse to believe that the outbreak was not somehow connected with members of the French squad going out for waffles in Rome on the opening weekend – but it is what it is and France do have the opportunity, if they can thrash Scotland, of winning the title.

The French will no doubt be buoyed by their last gasp victory over Wales and I expect them to come out firing, but the pressure to rack up big points is also likely to play into Scottish hands – the Scots being no mugs when it comes to a fast and loose game.

Ultimately, and bizarrely, it could be England who decide who wins the title – their bone-headed capitulation in the last quarter in Cardiff handing Wales a points difference which I think France will struggle to overhaul.

I believe the pressure of the scoreboard will prove decisive and, while this could end up being something of a try-fest, I doubt either team will win by a huge margin.

France to win this one, but by no more than 12, and Wales to win the championship.
