Six Nations 2021 - Round 5 Predictions

Hello, and welcome to the TF predictions for the (almost) final round of matches in the 2021 Six Nations. 

I say “almost” because, as we know, the postponed Round 3 encounter between France and Scotland will not be played until next weekend. 

So we may, or may not, crown this year’s Six Nations champions on Saturday.

Let’s see shall we?

Scotland v Italy

The chances of Italy pulling off an upset in this one are so low that Scotland have seen fit to select fullback and skipper Stuart Hogg at fly half. If that’s not taking the piss I don’t know what is. As a result I can see the Scottish backline stuttering somewhat but still don’t see anything other than a thumping win for the Scots and another wholly deserved Wooden Spoon for the Italians who have some major issues to resolve. Scotland by 20+

Ireland v England

And so to the real rugby. I would like to think that, with neither team really having anything tangible to play for in their final Six Nations game of the season, we will see both sides going for it with real attacking intent. I suspect, however, that this might turn into one of those attritional battles between two teams desperate not to lose. The packs look relatively evenly matched and, while there’s some serious pace in the England backline, the Irish look a little more solid. Nevertheless, after England’s improvement against France I think they might just prevail. England by 5.

France v Wales

For me, France remain the team to beat in this competition and will be out to make amends for their defeat at Twickenham. Wales, however, do have this habit of sealing the deal when it comes to wining Grand Slam deciders, albeit in recent times they have always had the comfort of playing in Cardiff for the decisive games. France have the better players and are the better team. But I have a horrible feeling the Welsh might just do it. Wales by 3.
