5 Storylines on the Undrafted NBA Players.

Most NBA players find their way into the professional ranks through the draft. However, not all professional basketball players who play in the NBA were drafted. There are a few who had to work their way up from the sidelines. Two examples of such undrafted NBA players are Joe Ingles and Fred VanVleet. Despite the fact that these players were not drafted, most of them never gave up and continued to work extra hard to impress professional teams in the Association. Let’s look at stories behind five undrafted NBA players that were undrafted. 

• Fred VanVleet

What contributed to the Toronto Raptors letting go of their franchise player Kyle Lowry to other teams at the NBA trade deadline was Fred VanVleet. After playing for four years at Wichita State, the 6-foot-1 basketball player went undrafted in 2016. Although this was a bomber to him, giving up was the last thing he had in mind. The Raptors later signed him in 2016, and his ambitions and determination had made him a regular starter in the NBA. He has an averaging career-high of 19.8 points and grabbing 4.2 rebounds in each game. Due to his outstanding improvement, VanVleet was in serious contention for the 2021 NBA All-Star Game.

• Christian Wood

After being one of the undrafted NBA players in 2015, Houston Rockets center Christian Woods refused to believe that he wasn’t meant to play in the NBA. He would have most likely been a contender for an NBA All-Star spot last March; it wasn’t his ankle sprains. He worked his way up from the sidelines, and look where he is now! He is almost a double-double machine with his 21.1 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks in each game. From three, he has a respectable shooting of 37.5%. 

• Duncan Robinson 

The Miami Heat are gifted with an eye to find diamonds in the rough for the past few years. Their relatively best catch is Duncan Robinson. It is quite obvious to note that he is among the 3-point marksmen in the game today. I guess those who didn’t draft him are now wishing otherwise. Being a high-volume shooter, he attempts about 8.5 threes a game and knocks down 3.5. He does this for a 40 percent clip. 

• Luguentz Dort 

Kendrick Nunn, who is a second pro player, was just signed last year by the Miami Heat. It made him into a starter in the NBA. Nunn has been a phenomenal player and played a significant role in contending for a title by the Heat. Luguentz Dort, who had just missed the cut by a whisker, was catching up quickly in the offensive game even though he played defense. 

• Chris Boucher

Chris Boucher is a lanky 6-foot-9 forward who became one of the undrafted NBA players in 2017. It did not deter him from reaching his NBA career peak. In fact, he made headlines for being the first player to be selected as the Defensive Player of the Year and G League MVP in 2018-19 at the same time.
