It May Be Two Games, But It’s Time for the Lions to Move On From Matt Patricia

It’s two weeks into the 2020 NFL season, and while there’s a lot of things in the league that look different, one thing looks the same – a winless Detroit Lions team.

The Lions have lost 11 straight dating back to last season, and in the first two weeks of the season they have blown games in the worst of ways.

They’ve had big leads, only to give them up. If you bet the Lions, you likely were throwing things at the television in the second half of each game.

Week one the Lions looked like a poised and prepared group, building a 17-point lead in the fourth quarter in Chicago against the Bears.

What happened? They allowed Mitchell Trubisky and the Bears to rally for a win, and then when they had a chance in the last minute to go for the win, they dropped the ball.

Yesterday in Green Bay, they had a 14-3 and seemed completely in control against the Green Bay Packers.

They lost by 21.

When the Lions hired Matt Patricia a few years back, part of his game was to be able to hold leads like the ones they had yesterday and last week, and how many times over his tenure has he failed?

Too many.

Patricia with the Patriots was a great defensive mind and a guy who pushed all the right buttons under Bill Belichick.

All he’s done with the Lions is fail, and the team can no longer sit back and watch.

It’s time for Lions fans to hear from principal owner Sheila Ford Hamp, and for her to pull the plug on the Patricia era.

It will hurt, and already 2020 is looking like YET another lost season for the Lions and their fans, but right now things cannot continue the way they are going.

It’s probably better that fans are not allowed into Ford Field, as many would probably rather at this point stay away anyway.

But the team needs a fresh start with a fresh voice, not one that has failed over the last few seasons over and over.

How bad have the Lions been since opening day 2018? The Cleveland Browns, the laughingstock of the NFL pretty much every year, have five more wins since then than the Lions do.

That’s not good.

It’s time for Detroit to do what they can to try and salvage 2020 and look to the future, and that has to happen with a new voice – not Patricia.
