Six Nations 2022 - Round 2 Predictions

And on we go to Round 2 of the 2022 Six Nations. Here is what is going to happen – well, possibly, more or less…

First up, Wales vs Scotland in Cardiff. The Welsh were terrible last week in Dublin but it looks like the team has a better balance to it this week and in Cardiff they should be a different proposition. The Scots played well last week – outplayed upfront by England but resolute in defence and dangerous whenever in possession. Inconsistency has been Scotland’s bugbear in recent years but I would be surprised if they lost this one. Scotland by about 9.

We then have France vs Ireland in Paris, arguably a Championship decider in week 2. Both teams were excellent in beating the All Blacks in November and both started well last week, although Ireland looked the more accomplished unit. Johnny Sexton’s absence could prove pivotal, although eventually the Irish are going to need to learn how to manage without him. If France click this could be a tough afternoon for Ireland but I am going to stick my neck out and say Ireland by 5.

We conclude on Sunday with Italy vs England in Rome. Italy played pretty well against France last week and must be thinking they have a great opportunity against an English team that choked when it mattered against Scotland. The problem with Italy, however, is that, even when they put in a good performance, they ship points regularly. If they can arrest this and stay in the game (on the scoreboard) for longer then they have a chance, but it’s hard habit to break. I’ve just seen the team Eddie has selected – probably the most attacking line up he has ever picked. It will either go brilliantly (England by 20+), or turn into a tight scrappy affair – in which case I fear it could go either way.
