New Ravens Get their Jersey Numbers

The 2022 NFL Draft has officially come and gone, and we welcome 11 new rookies to the Baltimore Ravens organization! The rookies include two first round draft choices in safety Kyle Hamilton and center Tyler Linderbaum, as well as second-round pick David Ojabo, who was once viewed as a top-15 prospect prior to an Achilles injury during the draft process.

Baltimore’s 2022 draft class has certainly been an impressive one to say the least, and we aren’t the only ones feeling this way. The media has widely praised the Ravens for their 2022 draft haul and it isn’t hard to see why based off the sure volume of the class, as well as the high-upside talents they managed to land.

We’ll take a look at everything going on with this class, including some opinions about the incoming rookies, for this edition of Out to Lunch. Let’s dive right on in!

Here is an overall look at Baltimore’s 2022 draft class:

Aside from the main headliners, the Ravens also picked up:

  • Defensive lineman Travis Jones
  • Offensive tackle David Faalele
  • Cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis
  • Tight end Charlie Kolar
  • Punter Jordan Stoutt
  • Tight end Isaiah Likely
  • Cornerback Damarion Williams
  • Running back Tyler Badie

The class has provided new depth at crucial positions for the team. The hope is that there are plenty of guys who have the potential to make impacts sooner rather than later, especially from their top picks. All in all, this looks to be a very good class (on paper at least).

Let’s start with some updated jersey numbers for the rookies and a few returning players:

Hamilton, the team’s first draft selection, will be wearing #14, which he wore in college during his days at Notre Dame. It is even more poetic that Hamilton was also the 14th overall selection this past weekend. Some things just make sense. Meanwhile, Linderbaum’s college number, #65, was already taken by Patrick Mekari, so he settled for #64. Ojabo played in #55 at Michigan, but he obviously was never going to wear that for the Ravens. He instead takes #90, which is just as good a looking jersey for an edge rusher. Of the veterans returning, wide receiver James Proche is switching to #3, which he wore back in college (SMU) and it should be a clean looking fit. All in all, I am a fan of the majority of these new jersey numbers.

One of the most publicized moves the Baltimore Ravens made last Thursday wasn’t even in drafting a player. No, the Ravens opted to trade wide receiver Marquise Brown, a.k.a. Hollywood, as well as a third-round pick (100th overall) to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for the 23rd overall selection. It was a controversial move considering his chemistry with Lamar Jackson and that he was coming off his first career 1,000-yard season, but nonetheless the Ravens felt this was a good decision.

A handful of people agreed, including ESPN analysist Dan Orlovsky, who had this to say yesterday on NFL Live:

Trading Hollywood Brown definitely feels like taking a step backwards, but the team did just draft Rashod Bateman a year ago with the thought of him being the go-to option in the passing game. Baltimore also doubled-down on the tight end position in the draft, which as we all well know is a position the team has long valued. Orlovsky definitely makes a good point in that the Ravens will likely be wanting to return to their roots on offense and trading away Brown, although definitely disappointing, does make sense.

Speaking of Bateman, general manager Eric DeCosta had this to say on the second-year receiver:

We certainly would love to see this move pay out in the long run, and it’s more than believable that Bateman could be a number one option for this offense.

For anyone who has a problem with the team not addressing the wide receiver position via the draft, take solace in the team’s undrafted free agent addition of former Alabama receiver Slade Bolden:

Bolden was far from a production machine with the Crimson Tide, but he has proven to be a reliable option with savvy route running skills. He may not be the flashiest guy in the world, but he is a rock solid pickup all things considered!

How good are the Baltimore Ravens when it comes to the NFL Draft? Take a look for yourself:

The Ravens have always prided themselves on being a strong organization when it comes to drafting players, and the proof is in the pudding. While a handful of Baltimore’s All-Pro players have moved on from the team, they still retain the aforementioned and unanimous MVP Lamar Jackson, Mark Andrews, Ronnie Stanley, and Marlon Humphrey. Despite some struggles in recent years with the drafts (particularly 2019), we have seen far more success than failure when it comes to the Ravens and the NFL Draft.

That’s all I got for you for now, Ravens Flock. This is going to be an exciting, but long offseason full of anticipation, but make sure you keep it plugged in here on Russell Street Report to get you through it all!
