Patrick Mahomes Sets Franchise Record in Latest Kansas City Chiefs Win

There are not many quarterbacks in the game that are as consistent as Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes has been in recent seasons, and once again, he’s setting a key example to his Arrowhead Stadium team-mates, setting a new franchise record in the process.

Though the Chiefs made heavy work of defeating the Tennessee Titans, winning 20-17 in overtime, Mahomes once again impressed with his display. This time the 27-year-old threw a franchise record 68 times, completing 43 and collecting 446 yards and a touchdown.

Now when it comes down to who will win the Super Bowl in 2023, the Chiefs sit in the second spot, behind the Buffalo Bills, with both teams now considered the most likely to pick up the coveted crown.

Patrick Mahomes followed up the edgy win over the Titans by putting in two more superb displays to secure wins over the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Los Angeles Chargers, which leaves the Chiefs sitting well clear in the AFC West with an 8-2 record.

In that most recent win, another overtime victory, this time over the Chargers, Mahomes threw a key last-gasp touchdown pass to Travis Kelce with just 31 seconds on the clock, and it’s yet further proof that there isn’t a better player in the NFL right now.

This fact is backed up by the stats where you’ll see Mahomes is now over 300 yards clear of Josh Allen in terms of passing yards, and his 28-touchdown tally is way clear of Joe Burrow, who’s 22nd place him in second place on that metric.

This is Mahomes sixth season in the NFL, and in each of the last four, he’s played a key role in taking the Chiefs to the post-season, and he’s well placed to once again secure a Super Bowl triumph to go with his previous title back in 2019.

Mahomes has recently been very magnanimous when it comes to his own role at the Kansas City Chiefs, electing to throw more of the spotlight on head coach Andy Reid, who’s been in the position since 2013; the QB commented;

“Guys just understand the culture that coach Reid has built here over the years,” Mahomes noted to reporters during his press conference on Wednesday. “It’s bigger than one player; it’s bigger than myself.”

“We’ve brought new guys in, the older players have gotten bigger roles, and we’ve done whatever we can to win football games. That’s helped us be the number-one team now, but how can we continue that and get better as the season goes along.”

Next up for the Chiefs are the reigning NFL champions, the Los Angeles Rams, who are very much in the midst of a poor follow-up campaign, and it’s a game Mahomes, and Kansas City will be desperate to win, having missed their chance to face the 2021 Super Bowl winners then they fell at the AFC Championship game to the Cincinnati Bengals 27-24.
