Michael Potter Evolving From Being A Professional Footballer to Global Business Person

Michael A Potter is an international business expert, TV sports analyst, entrepreneur, author, and media commentator. Across my global network, he has met many internationally well-known personalities from the world of Business and Sports.

Potter holds an MBA and a BA (Hons) in Business Studies from the University of Liverpool and an MA in Organizational Analysis and Behavior from the University of Lancaster. He is also a Chartered Fellow of the UK’s Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (FCIPD) and an RSA (Royal Society of Arts) Fellow.

Potter’s early career started in 1977 when he joined the UK’s Electricity Supply Industry as an Admin Trainee. He took various positions within the organization and spent 17 years in the sector.

Potter left the UK’s Electricity Supply Industry in 1994 to establish his consultancy practice, MPA Consulting, a Management Consultancy specializing in Business, HR Management, and Training.

In early 2003 Potter decided to expand his business internationally and went on to set up Michael A Potter International (MAPI). The expansion began with his UKTI-backed Vietnam mission in 2003, after which he secured a partnership with Tan Duc Professional Training School in Ho Chi Minh City.

In 2006, Potter secured another contract with one of the largest organizations in Vietnam, Mai Linh Corporation, to provide management and business skills training.

In 2009 Potter presented his workshop on Global Talent Management Recruitment, Retention & Development – Strategies for the Future at the World Human Resource Development Congress in Mumbai (India). He also won the Global HR Excellence Award for his leadership skills in human resources.

In 2010 Potter provided training to UniBank’s front-line managers and supervisors on how to position employees to leverage the bank’s performance and was titled “a human resource development guru” by the Ghana News Network.

In 2012, as a “faculty of international repute” [8], Potter was invited to deliver his “Interactive Workshop on Strategizing Organisational Development” to the staff at Gail Training Institute (India) to assist them in strengthening the Organisational Development aspects of their organization.

He also appeared as a Keynote Speaker at the 2012 Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Symposium in New Delhi. He was honored to receive the prestigious Dev Kusum International Fellowship Award [9] for recognition of his global HR achievements.

Although his earlier life was more tilted towards as a footballer professional with Bolton Wanderers FC in the English Premier League, destiny had planned even bigger things for him. He is now one of the most well-known people in the industry and gave expert analysis and content during the FIFA World Cup 2022.

Recently he has worked for GBC Ghana Broadcasting Corporation as part of their Football Pundit/Analyst Team covering the 2022 FIFA World Cup coverage in Ghana, West Africa.
