Should Jets add Pass Catchers Warren or Tet McMillan at 7?

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

The New York Jets have a brand-new look compared to where they were at this time last year. With a new General Manager, a new head coach, a new offensive coordinator and a new quarterback, the regime has genuinely changed in New York. However, don’t be fooled.

While there’s some excitement in the air, the Jets still have several holes that they will have to fill with the NFL draft approaching.

One of the big questions is what to do with their No. 7th overall pick. Two prominent names floating around are tight end Tyler Warren and wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan.  If the Jets were to target one of the two, who would be the better option?

Should the NY Jets Draft Tyler Warren or Tetairoa McMillan at No. 7 Overall?

Warren is hands down the best tight end on the board this year. While many would rather wait until Day 2 to draft a tight end, Warren is not like most players. He’s arguably one of the best pass catchers in the entire class, receivers included. Warren is coming off a fantastic season for Penn State, picking up 1,233 yards on 104 catches, and finishing his season with eight touchdowns.

The latest mock draft from Monday Morning Quarterback Gilbert Manzano has the Jets picking Warren with their No. 7 overall pick. “Perhaps the smarter choice here is for the Jets to take an offensive lineman to fill their vacancy at right tackle,” Manzano wrote. “But New York swapped a middle-aged Aaron Rodgers, who lacked mobility, for the ultra-athletic Justin Fields. Now imagine Fields often finding Warren for first downs while running away from the pocket. Adding a reliable pass catcher as good as Warren will give opposing defenses plenty to think about against a Jets backfield that features Fields and Breece Hall.”

As for Tet McMillan, he’s a player who’s been equally impressive in college. Arguably the best wide receiver in the class, with Emeka Egbuka second. He would also fill a huge hole for the Jets regarding their wide receiver core. As of now, the only receiver the Jets can count on is Garrett Wilson.

Lou Scataglia of the NFL Spinzone recently predicted that the Jets will use their No. 7 overall pick on McMillan. “The New York Jets have a new head coach, general manager and starting quarterback,” Scataglia wrote. “Justin Fields is going to be their starter for at least the 2025 NFL Season, and it would not shock me if from now until the 2026 NFL Draft, the Jets tried to load up their roster as much as possible to pave the way for a rookie in next year’s draft, where the QB class is projected to be a lot better. In the meantime, they’ll use their first-round pick in this mock draft on Tet McMillan, the best wide receiver prospect in the class.”

While this isn’t an easy question to answer, the safe bet here between the two would be to draft McMillan. It comes down to who would you rather draft with your No. 7 overall pick, a wide receiver or a tight end? Drafting a wide receiver is so much more important in the first round, especially since it’s also a position where the Jets are very thin at.

McMillan has already drawn comparisons to Davante Adams, and he could go on to fill a hole which was vacated by Adams himself. New York is looking to add a WR2 to replace Adams. While it’s no easy feat, McMillan could be the best bet at replacing Adams. Similar to Adams, McMillan is a formidable outside threat. Standing at 6’5″ and weighing 212 pounds, McMillan has shown some excellence as a receiver during his time at Arizona. The agility he possesses at his size is outstanding, and he was among the top receivers in the country in creating yards after the catch.

Tet McMillan has rare height and reach for a receiver that cornerbacks will not have an easy time defending. He would be a great compliment to Wilson’s speed and route-running. His one downfall is his lack of separation but he has enough height, reach, and hops to get balls out of the air that most can’t. He was an absolute superstar last season in Arizona, hauling in 84 catches for 1,319 yards and eight touchdowns. His catch radius is insane, and he easily has some of the best hands in the entire 2025 NFL Draft class.

Warren is undoubtedly a special talent in his own right. For sure the best tight end in the 2025 NFL Draft, however, McMillan just offers tooo many perks with drafting him. Tet McMillan helps the Jets receiving group a great deal, and with a new quarterback in Fields, he needs more people to throw the ball too. McMillan is a playmaker in every sense of the word, and has the ability to do great things in The Big Apple.
