Jets Training Camp Primer: How the 2025 Draft Class is Shaping Up

Armand Membou Armand Membou

The team is close to entering training camp with a new GM in Darren Mougey and a new head coach in Aaron Glenn. After a busy offseason, all eyes are on the 2025 draft class as they take the field for the first time in pads. This group isn’t flashy, but if the Jets are going to change their direction, they need this to be the foundation for the next phase of the rebuild. Here is a breakdown of the recent draft picks as we get closer to Jets training camp.

Armand Membou – OT, Missouri (Round 1, Pick 7)

Projected Role: Starting Right Tackle
Membou walks into camp with a real opportunity to claim the starting job opposite Olu Fashanu. The Jets moved on from Morgan Moses, and while Carter Warren and Max Mitchell are still in the mix, Membou has the tools and pedigree to rise quickly. He’s physical, technically sound, and fits the scheme. Expect him to get first-team reps early in camp.

Mason Taylor – TE, LSU (Round 2, Pick 42)

Projected Role: TE2 with TE1 upside
Taylor is polished and comes from an NFL bloodline. He’ll compete with Jeremy Ruckert but has a good chance to earn meaningful snaps out of the gate. His hands, route-running, and red zone instincts stand out. The Jets want to use more 12 personnel, and Taylor gives them the flexibility to do it.

Azareye’h Thomas – CB, Florida State (Round 3, Pick 73)

Projected Role: Depth Corner / Nickel Backup
With Sauce Gardner entrenched as the top guy, Thomas will be in the mix for backup and special teams duties. He’s long, physical, and fits the man-heavy style Aaron Glenn is expected to deploy. If he adjusts quickly to NFL route combinations, he could earn a spot as the top reserve on the outside.

Arian Smith – WR, Georgia (Round 4, Pick 110)

Projected Role: WR5 / Return Game Candidate
Smith has blazing speed but was inconsistent in college. He struggled with route discipline, tracking deep balls, and staying healthy. The tools are there, but he’s a developmental piece. He’ll battle Xavier Gipson and Irvin Charles for one of the final WR spots and a possible return role. If he puts it all together, his upside is a sweet bonanza.

Malachi Moore – S, Alabama (Round 4, Pick 130)

Projected Role: Backup Safety / Special Teams Core
Moore is a high-IQ, versatile defender who played multiple roles in college. He’ll begin behind Chuck Clark and Tony Adams, but he could carve out a niche in dime packages and excel on special teams. His path to playing time is about consistency, communication, and making the most of every opportunity in camp.

Francisco Mauigoa – LB, Miami (Round 5, Pick 162)

Projected Role: Special Teams Contributor / Depth LB
Mauigoa brings speed and aggression but needs refinement in coverage. He’ll likely start on special teams, where his physicality and effort will help him stick. The Jets are still sorting through their linebacker depth chart after moving on from C.J. Mosley. Jamien Sherwood learned what the team thought about him after signing his 45 million dollar deal. A strong camp could open more doors for Francisco but special teams will make or break him.

Tyler Baron – EDGE, Miami (Round 5, Pick 176)

Projected Role: Developmental Edge / Special Teams
With Jermaine Johnson returning and Will McDonald ahead of him, Baron’s path is tough. But he has the frame and burst to be an intriguing long-term prospect. He’ll need to prove he belongs in preseason games and special teams drills to secure a spot on the 53-man roster.

Final Thoughts

This isn’t a rookie class built for headlines, but it’s one that could quietly deliver real value. Membou and Taylor may start. Thomas and Moore have rotational upside. Smith, Mauigoa, and Baron are long plays but ones worth watching closely. The 2025 Jets draft may not have made national waves, but we will soon find out if the new regime will get off to a fast start.
