Chicago Cubs: previously overlooked SP making case to be 2026 NL All-Star

The Chicago Cubs, for the first time since early May, have officially won a series. With their third consecutive win on Saturday, their second in the series against the San Francisco Giants, they have clinched a series since they swept the Cincinnati Reds.

Now 37-34 on the year, Chicago is in third place in the National League Central Division. With winning has come more positive attention to the club, particularly at players that could be considered for the 2026 National League All-Star roster.

And even though offensive stars may receive the most attention, starting pitcher Ben Brown should get some as well.

Chicago Cubs pitcher Ben Brown is pitching like an All-Star

It is no secret around baseball that the Cubs have had some of the worst luck in the Majors when it comes to injuries to their starting rotation. What is more, the pitchers they have had healthy have all-too-often underwhelmed or have been flat-out disappointing.

But Brown has been a major bright spot for the team, which led Jordan Bastian to write that he is in “All-Star form:”

“The All-Star break is a little over a month away, and the Cubs have an unexpected contender emerging for the National League’s roster. Between his strong showing out of the bullpen and his recent string of stellar starts, Ben Brown has the potential to stay on a path to the Midsummer Classic.

“Brown has already been one of the great storylines for the North Siders within a first half that has really tested the ballclub on all fronts. Representing the Cubs at the All-Star Game would take his impressive campaign to another level.”

Brown started out the season in the bullpen, but has recently been used as a starting pitcher as injuries and inconsistencies mounted. In 19 games (seven starts), he is 3-2 with an impressive 1.74 ERA and one save.

The National League has a high number of great starting pitchers, but not all of them can pitch in the All-Star Game due to their schedules. Even if he does not get named to the NL roster initially, Brown should find himself on it eventually.

If he keeps pitching at this level, he certainly deserves it.
