Bears WR Rome Odunze looks ready to go after foot injury

Chicago Bears wide receiver Rome Odunze (15) celebrates after the game against the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium.

The Chicago Bears drafted Rome Odunze at No. 9 overall in 2024. The team believed he would be its wide receiver of the future following a strong run with the Washington Huskies. He earned Consensus All-American honors and led the NCAA in receiving yards in 2023.

However, a lingering foot stress fracture forced Odunze to miss five games last season. It limited what was a promising campaign for him, as he recorded 44 receptions for 661 yards and six touchdowns. He was able to see action in the playoffs, registering four catches for 88 yards, but he was not as explosive earlier in the season.

The 24-year-old will look to put his injury issues behind him by helping lead the Bears to an even deeper postseason run in 2026. He established himself as one of Caleb Williams’ favorite targets and aims to continue performing at a high level.

Chicago Bears: Rome Odunze shows no signs of being hampered by foot injury

Odunze admitted earlier this offseason that his foot may not feel fully normal again, but he is looking ready to go for 2026. He posted a video of himself running on a manual inclined treadmill on his Instagram story on Friday. The 6-foot-3 wideout showed explosiveness and didn’t appear hampered by the stress fracture.

Chicago traded DJ Moore to the Buffalo Bills in March. It was proof of the team’s full belief in Odunze being capable of taking on a bigger role starting next season.

The Bears also signed Kalif Raymond this offseason to add more depth at wide receiver. They strengthened their defense by bolstering its secondary with the addition of Coby White and the draft selection of Dillon Thieneman.

Odunze and Co. are raring to go following their Divisional Round exit to the Los Angeles Rams. Their 2026 campaign starts on the road on Sept. 13 against Bryce Young and the Carolina Panthers.
