And with that, fans around the league are evaluating their own teams’ chances of success across the 2026 campaign. While many won’t love their odds, the Ravens continue to be viewed as an early AFC North and Super Bowl favorite:
.@MarcRoss on AFC North: “It’s between the Ravens and Cincinnati… [Bengals] are used to playing with a bad offensive line. Their major problem is the defense has been awful instead of average.” #RavensFlock
— Glenn Clark (@GlennClarkRadio) July 21, 2026
ESPN’s Harry Douglas is picking the Ravens to reach the Super Bowl.
His reason: Jesse Minter can turn Baltimore’s secondary into one of the NFL’s best, while Declan Doyle could unlock a huge Lamar Jackson season.
The new era has serious potential.

As we all well know, Baltimore’s success (and the discourse around it) will largely hinge on the play of franchise QB Lamar Jackson. Although much has been made of Jackson’s performance last season, there’s plenty of reason to believe he and his team can bounce back.
First and foremost, health alone should help:
yes… but also Lamar’s rank weeks 1-4:
#1 YPA (9.1), #1 TD rate (11%), #3 EPA/att (+0.26), #4 TD:INT ratio (10:1) #5 comp % (72%)
and also Lamar’s injury report from Week 5 on:
Week 5: Hamstring (OUT)
Week 6: Hamstring (OUT)
Week 8: Hamstring (OUT)
Week 9: Hamstring… https://t.co/JCiDXiWaEU— Warren Sharp (@SharpFootball) July 21, 2026
There’s no denying the impact Jackson’s health had on the Ravens’ inability to make the playoffs last year, but the reason his health was constantly in jeopardy was a huge part of things, as well. Again, we all know how important an improvement along the O-Line was this offseason:
How often a QB faces pressure so quick it knocks him off his read (disruption pressure) and EPA on those plays pic.twitter.com/SLJrYYei23
— Jrfortgang (@throwthedamball) July 21, 2026
The Ravens have to be better at keeping Jackson upright. If they are, those Top-100 Player Rankings should look a lot different:
“If he’s [Lamar Jackson] going to be healthy for most of the games, he’s a top 10, top 20 at worst player in the entire National Football League.”

Luckily, I do think the line will be significantly improved, primarily due to First Round Pick Vega Ioane:
Sports Illustrated believes Ravens rookie Vega Ioane has the potential to become a top-10 guard in the NFL.

— Ravens Nation ð™‡ð™„ð™‘𙀠(@LiveRavenNation) July 21, 2026
Again assuming health, it’s hard to put into words how big an impact the improvement here should be. Alongside Ioane, though, Baltimore’s latest signing could solidify the team’s last question mark along the line:
Ethan Pocic may just be the stable vet to solidify a brand new interior for the #Ravens
Here’s what to expect:https://t.co/MflndrDypz
— Cole Jackson (@ColeJacksonFB) July 21, 2026
Meanwhile, the possibility of signing WR Stefon Diggs continues to have legs. I don’t want to write off the performance of Zay Flowers, however:
Zay Flowers accounted for roughly 37% of Baltimore’s receiving yards during the 2025 season.
Zay Flowers: 1,211 yards
Next Ravens WR: 330 yardsThat’s an 881-yard difference.
This percentage is calculated from Flowers’ 1,211 yards and Baltimore’s 3,278 total receiving yards. pic.twitter.com/McmDG4bDVB
— Ravens Nation ð™‡ð™„ð™‘𙀠(@LiveRavenNation) July 21, 2026
Still, as numerous media members outline, adding Diggs could take the pressure off Flowers and improve the room’s depth if he misses time or the likes of Rashod Bateman, Tez Walker, Ja’Kobi Lane and Elijah Sarratt can’t produce:
.@MarcRoss on if Stefon Diggs is a distraction: “There’s a reason he’s going on 4 teams in 4 yrs. Get a good year out of him, let him move on. Will he come [to Baltimore] and be on his best behavior, say the right things? Maybe, maybe not. But to me, it’s worth it.” #RavensFlock
— Glenn Clark (@GlennClarkRadio) July 21, 2026
.@MarcRoss on Ravens/Stefon Diggs: “If you put Diggs on the roster, who are you sacrificing? Nobody. You’re not hindering Ja’Kobi Lane or Elijah Sarratt…It’s 3rd + 5, where are you going? If you bring Stefon Diggs in, he showed last year he can still be that guy.” #RavensFlock

I’m starting to convince myself!
That said, many seem confused about the root cause of Baltimore’s early season struggles last year. To be clear, it wasn’t on the offensive end:
90% of the football world seems to think Baltimore’s offense and QB play are why they missed the playoffs last year and not that they were giving up 35 per game until October and blew two 4th quarter leads at the end of the year.
Other side of the ball is why they started 1-5.

Here, I really wonder how significant the hiring of HC Jesse Minter could be in turning things around. I’ll just leave these stats here:
Defensive play callers over the last decade. Red Zone trips allowed per game and Touchdown% on trips (min 30 games). Jesse Minter has been nails pic.twitter.com/XER4RghSHd

For the crowd that minimizes Minter’s X’s & O’s mind and has labeled him Harbaugh 2.0 lmao.
There are two coaches head and shoulders above the rest.
We’re facing a potential defensive version of McVay & Shanahan with Mac & Minter. Things need to play out of course. #Ravens https://t.co/M8D8FAnbkw

Jesse Minter appreciation post.
Chargers entered the 2025-2026 season with 1 All Pro player from the previous season on its roster.
His defense finished…
• 5th in passing yards
• 8th in rushing yards
• 8th in opponents passer rating
• 2nd in red zone TD%
• 5th in… pic.twitter.com/yetw30pudn— E. (@ItsJust__E) July 21, 2026
Come playoff time, that Red Zone and overall success should help. Supplementing it with an improved ability to take the ball away would work wonders, though:
The most underdiscussed part of the Ravens playoff struggles.
The entire team pisses down their leg in big moments.
The 2023 Ravens D had 31 takeaways (tied for 1st w/ the Giants) in the regular season. They had 0 in 2 games in the playoffs.#RavensFlock https://t.co/pOAlyWQ87a
— Cole Jackson (@ColeJacksonFB) July 21, 2026
To do that, I wonder what Minter can do to elevate the play of the Safety room. While Baltimore added Jaylinn Hawkins and K’Von Wallace to fill out the position, the entire unit could be improved.
In fact, PFF placed 2nd year FS Malaki Starks in its All Breakout Defense for 2026 (alongside LB Teddye Buchanan):

Obviously, any improvement next to DPOY Candidate Kyle Hamilton will help the entire defense shine. Here some tape to highlight what Minter’s working with and a bit more detail on what he’s done with similar players in the past:

I think Minter can turn the back-end of this secondary into an elite group. If I’m right, the Ravens might get the Super Bowl victory we’ve been waiting for.
