What the 2026 NY Jets Training Camp Schedule Tells Us
The 2026 NY Jets training camp schedule offers more than a list of practices and preseason games. It shows how Aaron Glenn and his coaching staff will move through system installation, player evaluation, joint practices, and the final decisions that will determine the 53-man roster. The Jets had a complete coaching overhaul in the offseason, so there is a lot of work to be done.
Veterans report to Florham Park on Tuesday, July 28, with the first practice scheduled for the following morning. From there, the Jets will have approximately one month to prepare for the regular season.
The Opening Stage of Jets Training Camp
The Jets begin with practices on July 29 and July 30 and don’t have practice on Friday, July 31. They return to the field on August 1 and then continue with practices on August 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8.
The schedule rarely asks players to practice for more than two consecutive days during this opening stretch. That should give the coaching staff time to install schemes and evaluate the roster while managing the workload of veteran players.
NFL training camp today is much more controlled than the camps many longtime fans remember. Collective bargaining rules limit contact and require an acclimation period before teams can begin padded practices. Most players also arrive in excellent physical condition, making camp less about getting into shape and more about learning the playbook, improving communication and building timing.
This will be especially important for the Jets offense. Frank Reich is taking over as offensive coordinator, which means Geno Smith and the rest of the offense must learn new terminology, responsibilities and concepts.
Tampa Bay Joint Practices Will Be a Major Test
The most revealing portion of the schedule could arrive on August 11 and 12, when the Jets hold two joint practices with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Both sessions are scheduled from 10 a.m. until noon. Joint practices become even more valuable in an era with less hitting during training camp. Players are competing against unfamiliar opponents, which creates a different level of intensity than another practice against teammates.
Receivers must adjust to different coverages. Offensive linemen see new defensive linemen. Quarterbacks face new defensive looks, and communication is tested at something closer to game speed.
Joint practices are still controlled environments and will not feature live tackling during every period. However, they can be more physical and competitive than regular camp practices. That matters because one potential drawback of lighter training camps is that players receive fewer opportunities to practice tackling and playing through contact. It is one reason NFL football can look sloppy during the opening weeks of the regular season.
The Jets will have a day between the second joint practice and their preseason opener against Tampa Bay at MetLife Stadium on Friday, August 14. That gives the coaching staff three opportunities in four days to evaluate the roster against the same opponent.
The Most Demanding Stretch of Camp
After the Tampa Bay game, the Jets return to practice on August 17, 18 and 19. That is the only scheduled stretch of three consecutive practice days during camp.
The August 18 session is scheduled to last two hours and 10 minutes, making it one of the longest regular practices on the calendar. This could be an important period for position battles as the coaching staff begins identifying which players are making a serious push for the roster.
The Jets then travel to Pittsburgh for their only road game of the preseason on Friday, August 21.
Having only one preseason road trip is beneficial. The Jets will play twice at MetLife Stadium, including the annual preseason finale against the Giants. It keeps the team close to its Florham Park facility for most of the summer and reduces travel-related disruption.
One Roster Cutdown Changes Camp
The Jets will not have to make staggered roster cuts during training camp. Under the current NFL format, teams can carry 90 players throughout the preseason before making one final reduction to 53. That is different from the previous system, years ago, that required teams to reduce their rosters from 90 to 85, then from 85 to 80, before reaching the final 53.
Keeping the full roster gives the Jets more depth throughout camp. Younger players can handle additional practice reps, while the coaching staff has greater flexibility to manage the workload of established starters. It also gives developmental players more time to prove themselves before a decision is made.
The final evaluation window will be extremely short. The Jets play the Giants on Friday, August 28, and must reduce their roster to 53 players by 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, according to the NFL’s official calendar.
That gives Aaron Glenn, general manager Darren Mougey and the rest of the organization less than 48 hours after the preseason finale to complete the roster.

Breaking Down NY Jets Training Camp
The Jets training camp schedule can be divided into three clear stages. The opening portion is about teaching, conditioning and establishing an initial depth chart. The Tampa Bay joint practices provide the first major test against another team. The final two weeks are about preseason performance and difficult roster decisions.
There is always a balance during training camp. Coaches need enough physical work to prepare players for regular-season football, but they also need to get through the summer without losing important players to injuries. The schedule gives the Jets recovery time, plenty of roster depth and two potentially intense joint practices. The next question is how Aaron Glenn uses those opportunities to get his team ready for Week 1.
