Chicago Bears teammates appear ‘fed up’ with Kyler Gordon: Report

Chicago Bears Kyler Gordon

Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson has voiced his frustration over the last year about the availability of Kyler Gordon.

Gordon appeared in just three games last season, starting in one game amid groin and calf injuries. Earlier in the offseason, Johnson said he had trust issues with Gordon and hoped he’d be more available this year.

Gordon started training camp on the active/PUP list due to a soft-tissue injury. Last week, Johnson said there was no new update for Gordon.

During an appearance on “The Score” on Wednesday, Adam Hoge of CHGO Bears said the “vibe” at Halas Hall is that “everybody’s fed up” that Gordon isn’t practicing. He suggested Bears players have chosen not to defend him when on the podium speaking to reporters.

“There were valid reasons why he wasn’t on the field, and then it eventually just got to the point where it seems like everybody’s a little fed up that the guy’s not out there,” Hoge said. “That’s the vibe you get in the building, and nobody is…

“There have been plenty of opportunities for plenty of people, coaches, probably even some teammates, (to go up to the podium) and talk up how the guy’s trying to get back, how he’s trying to work hard, and it’s been very simple. Ben said it on the first day of training camp, right? The message is get healthy, and so far that hasn’t happened.”

Hoge is speculating the Bears don’t know when Gordon can return and are planning to go into the regular season without him.

“I think they’re just kind of moving on at this point, doing their best, assuming that they’re not going to have Kyler,” Hoge said. “And if they do at some point, great. But the reality is, even if he does come back, how this has gone the past what two years now or so.”

The Bears signed Gordon to a three-year, $40 million deal in 2025 that will keep him on under contract through 2028. Since the signing, he hasn’t had much work with the new coaching staff, and it’s fair to wonder how long they’ll want to keep him around unless things change.
