Ben Johnson has a message for Chicago Bears fans ahead of this week’s game

In just a few days, the Chicago Bears will host the Minnesota Vikings for a Week 2 matchup that has plenty of storylines.

The Bears are coming off an electric, 59-point outburst in their season opener against the Carolina Panthers. D’Andre Swift led the charge with three rushing touchdowns just days after his contract extension. That performance was good enough to earn him some Week 1 honors.

Soldier Field is set to be a rowdy atmosphere on Sunday, as Bears fans have been waiting a long time for a team like this to emerge. Even though the defense has its concerns, if the offense can continue putting up points, they’ll be fun to watch at the very least. Head coach Ben Johnson has made it known that he wants this offense to set records, and they’re surely off to a good start in that department.

Johnson spoke to the media today about what he expects from this Chicago Bears fanbase and how he wants them to bring the energy on Sunday afternoon.

“Yeah we need it (energy), each and every week we play at home. We’re counting on that. We talked in the preseason and training camp about how powerful it is to play at Soldier. We need to come away with home victories if we want this season to go the way we want it to.”

Last season, the Bears took advantage of home field, going 6-2 over their 8-game slate, including a home playoff victory. You could feel the vibe in the stadium change with every victory, as the fans suddenly had hope.

A strong word that many in the Bears fanbase haven’t felt in quite some time. Even during the Matt Nagy-Mitch Trubisky era, you didn’t feel that sense of “championship team” that you might feel now. The culture within this organization is shifting, and it all starts with Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams.

If the Chicago Bears can control home field this season, the sky is the limit

When you look at this season’s opponents, the Bears have a pretty tough schedule at home.

They host Minnesota this week and the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3, and then the New York Jets in Week 4. Three home games in a row right at the beginning of the season may sound nice, but it won’t be easy.

Week 7, they’ll host the defending AFC champion New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football in a highly anticipated matchup. Week 9, they’ll host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, right before their Week 10 bye.

A lot of playoff teams are on this schedule, and it’ll surely be a test for this Chicago Bears defense. It won’t get easier either, as they’ll welcome the Jaguars and Saints in the latter half of the schedule. Two more teams are coming off impressive Week 1 performances.

Time will tell when it comes to the rest of the league, but the Bears will need to control home field if they want to make another deep playoff push.
