Chicago Bears’ Kyler Gordon ‘away from the team’ now
The Chicago Bears situation with Kyler Gordon continues to get even more interesting just days before the team travels to play the Carolina Panthers in Week 1 on Sunday.
Gordon missed much of OTAs, all of mandatory minicamp, and training camp due to a soft-tissue injury. Bears head coach Ben Johnson said Gordon has been in the building and working out during training camp. (He was played on injured reserve to begin the campaign.)
That appears to have changed as of Tuesday.
Per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Gordon is “away from the team” while he rehabs with his personal trainer. The Bears hope he can return to practice in a few weeks.
Kyler Gordon is away from the Chicago Bears

“Bears standout CB Kyler Gordon, who is on IR with a calf injury, is away from the team working with his own trainer to accelerate recovery, sources say,” Rapoport posted on X. “The plan is for Gordon to return a few weeks into the season and begin practicing shortly thereafter. Some optimism here.
“This has been a challenging recovery, and sometimes players work best honing in with their own people. That seems to be the case here. Barring a setback, Gordon should be back sooner, rather than later.”
It’s unclear if the Bears are excited about the prospect of Gordon rehabbing away from the team.
Last week, Bears general manager Ryan Poles made curious comments about Gordon, suggesting he might not play for Chicago again in his career.
“I don’t know,” Poles said of Gordon returning to play for the Bears in the future, via ESPN. “I hope so. I still have hope there. He’s going to have to continue to work hard and get back to playing football again.”
Last year, Gordon signed a three-year, $40 million contract extension. He only appeared in five games for the Bears last season.
