Chicago Bears worried about 2 areas of Vikings’ offense

The Chicago Bears defense wants a mulligan after giving up 37 points to the Carolina Panthers in Week 1.

The good news for the Bears defense was that the offense put up 59 points, allowing the team to walk away with a win in their season opener.

The Bears won’t always get so lucky if the defense plays the way it did in Week 1, giving up 478 total yards and an average of 7.7 yards per play.

When speaking to reporters on Thursday, Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen sized up what he thinks of the Minnesota Vikings offense. His first worry is to stop the run, which has been key to the Vikings’ six-game winning streak.

“Well, I really think it really starts with the running game,” Allen said. “If you date back all the way back to last season, they’ve won six in a row, and really, it’s been a lot about being able to run the ball effectively, and they’ve done a really good job of that over the course of the last six games. And so I think it starts with that.”

Chicago Bears must stop the Vikings’ run game

The Vikings rushed for 107 yards and two touchdowns on 34 attempts in their 39-22 comeback win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 1. Jordan Mason led the Vikings with 59 yards and a score on 15 touches. Aaron Jones added 40 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries.

Allen addressed the elephant in the room, noting the defense needs to key in on Justin Jefferson at all times.

“Obviously, in the passing game, they’ve got a lot of weapons, and yet you know that Justin Jefferson is an outstanding player,” Allen said. “He’s an All-Pro/Pro Bowl player. So we know he’s a guy that we have to make sure we understand where he’s at at all times.”

Jefferson led the Vikings in receiving against the Packers with eight receptions for 92 yards and two touchdowns. Jaylon Johnson and Tyrique Stevenson have a big Sunday coming up against Minnesota’s pass catchers, and they must play better than they did against Carolina.
