Chicago White Sox catcher sends fiery message before pivotal Guardians series
The Chicago White Sox are gearing up for a potentially NL Central deciding series against the Cleveland Guardians. Things haven’t looked pretty for the South Siders as of late.
Chicago has lost five of their last six games. In all of those defeats, the White Sox failed to score more than three runs. With their record now at 76-73, they hold just a 0.5 game lead in the NL Central over the Guardians.
Which is why the upcoming stretch is so crucial. The White Sox will still play the Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals and Colorado Rockies after the three-game stretch, so there will still be opportunities to clinch. But whoever wins the Guardians-White Sox series will be the NL Central leaders moving forward.
While Chicago has struggled, they know the challenge in front of them. If they want their 2026 run to continue into the playoffs, the White Sox must lock in.
Kyle Teel ready to fight for Chicago White Sox
While the White Sox have numerous options behind the plate, Kyle Teel has emerged as the primary option at catcher, starting six of Chicago’s last nine games. As he prepares for the pivotal Guardians series, Teel knows he and his teammates are ready to do whatever it takes to succeed, via Lamond Pope of the Chicago Tribune.
“Leave it all out on the field,” Teel said. “Get our work in and go compete. Guys in this room, we know what we’re capable of. We’ve got an exceptional team and we just need to stay within ourselves and go out there and compete.”
The White Sox will be looking f0r their bats to wake up against the Guardians and will hope Teel could play a key role in that charge. While he is hitting .200 over his 20 games, the backstop does have four home runs and 18 RBIs. He also has a chip on his shoulder and understands where the White Sox stand.
