Chicago Bears opponent Nick Sirianni

The Chicago Bears are riding high after their 27-7 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football. But the victory didn’t come without a bit of controversy.

As Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was headed towards the sidelines, he was blasted by Bears linebacker D’Marco Jackson. Hurts was forced to leave the field before backup Andy Dalton threw an interception in the end zone.

The quarterback was able to return to the game, but head coach Nick Sirianni was heated. He was seen shouting expletives at Jackson and was overall heated up about the the exchange. It was a high intensity moment involving his star quarterback.

Looking back though, Sirianni knows he probably took things a bit too far. His effort to defend the Eagles came with a side of remorse.

In the moment, neither side can tell exactly what happened. Jackson was ultimately flagged for the play, leading to more animosity. As he re-analyzes the scenario, Sirianni acknowledges both sides were just trying to make a play. It’ll be a teaching moment for him going forward, via Tim McManus of ESPN.

“Obviously, you want to always fight for your players, and protect your players. I always come away when I have a moment like that with remorse of, ‘Man, I shouldn’t have let my emotions get the best of me,’” Sirianni said.

“Those guys are out there trying to make a play. It was close on the sideline, ended up being a penalty,” he continued. “Obviously, you never want to see your quarterback get hit like that, but it’s in the heat of the moment. I know nobody is trying to hurt anybody out there, and I always have remorse when I act that way. But I always love fighting for our players.

“I have to be more steady in that situation. I didn’t like how I handled that.”

With Hurts coming away uninjured, the moment will now be water under the bridge; although Jackson may be fined for the flag. Sirianni knows his emotions will rise again. But he will do his best to control them.
