Kelsey Mitchell comments on Indiana Fever future

Kelsey Mitchell and the Indiana Fever saw their championship quest end on Thursday. They lost 94-83 to the Las Vegas in Game 3 of their first-round playoff series. The four-time All-Star guard already looks forward to the future with the team despite entering unrestricted free agency in the offseason.

Mitchell finished with a team-high 23 points, with two rebounds. However, she struggled from the field, shooting just 7-of-23. Aliyah Boston added 19 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks. Caitlin Clark was also inefficient as she only knocked down 6-of-18 attempts. She recorded 18 points, four assists and three three-pointers.

The Fever forced a winner-take-all matchup after winning 99-89 on Tuesday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. They battled strong in the fourth quarter and trimmed the lead to as low as three points. However, the defending champions found a way to maintain their lead.

Indiana Fever: Kelsey Mitchell shares thoughts on upcoming free agency

During her postgame availability, Mitchell made it clear that she plans to remain with Indiana. She will likely receive a lot of interest from teams around the WNBA but wants to run it back with her teammates.

Being a part of playoffs, that’s what it’s all about,” Mitchell said. “To get the experience, to figure out where you got to be better at, to figure out what your flaws is, to figure out what your weaknesses are. I think as a group, we’re still getting our feet on the playoff experience side, and we played against a team that is full of a playoff experience. So that speaks for itself.

“I think all we can do is keep fighting our best to be able to get in these positions to be able to get the experience. I think that you look at the film, you take your preseason and use it for what it is. And I think we put ourselves in a position to be back here hopefully next year.”

The 30-year-old enjoyed a historic season, breaking several league records. She set a new mark for consecutive regular-season games with 20-plus points, and the most in a single regular season. Mitchell also owns the most three-pointers made in a campaign.

It remains to be seen what contract the Fever will offer her. However, they are the favorites to land her services, especially now with the hunger the team has following another early playoff exit.
