Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham

Sophie Cunningham and the Indiana Fever have already been eliminated in the WNBA playoffs. However, the veteran guard continued to turn heads with her latest move outside of her team and the league.

She contributed five points and two assists in Game 3 against the Las Vegas Aces on Thursday. Kelsey Mitchell led the team’s charge with 23 points on 7-of-23 shooting in the 94-83 defeat. Aliyah Boston produced 19 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Caitlin Clark, who also struggled from the field with a 6-of-18 clip, finished with 18 points, four assists and three three-pointers.

Cunningham began the season as a starter but was moved to the bench for her offensive firepower. She had a roller-coaster campaign but consistently provided grit and hustle. The Fever also campaigned for her to win the Sixth Player of the Year award.

Cunningham returned to her alma mater, the University of Missouri, for homecoming. She is part of the Hall of Fame Class of 2026 and the school honored her on Saturday during its football game against the No. 8-ranked Florida Gators. The 30-year-old’s photo from the parade received a lot of comments on X.

“Thank you for everything you’ve done this past season to make the Fever the most popular team in Women’s Basketball and for being a descent Human Being. I hope the future holds Happiness and Fulfillment for you,” a user wrote.

“I was watching Mizzou football. I’m not from Missouri. That’s what Sophie means to me😉,” one comment read.

“she’s a huge reason why she is home!!!” posted another.

“Home sweet home, good old rocky top,” another fan commented.

“My Queen,” one reaction read.

The Tigers pulled off a huge upset, winning 45-17. Cunningham starred for the program from 2015 to 2019, leading to her selection at No. 13 overall in the second round by the Phoenix Mercury. She landed with the Fever in January 2025 via a trade.
